And the D/G Fic Exchange.... BEGINS!!!

Yep, it's the official resurrection of the fic exchange. And yes, it's going to be on LJ at the same link below. NOT because I have any great love of LJ, believe me, but because that's where it's ALWAYS been, a lot of people follow that page, the rules are already there, and Seegrim, who used to run it there, is going to help us. :) So for all those reasons, LJ is the place... for now. So if you haven't been to that page for awhile, the link at the left hand bottom corner is what you need to click. It's not on all skins, but it's on most of them.

A few questions.

When to have it?
What should the theme be?
Any other ideas?

How about 007 theme?:))

Rebirth/revitalization theme? That would fit with the starting up of the exchange again. And maybe start it sometime between the end of November and Christmas?

I LOVE that idea!! :) (I like the 007 idea too, but it might be too specific right now.) I could see starting it then.... BUT... one big question: would it be competing too much with all the Xmas fic drives?

Anise @ Oct 08, 2013 11:53 am

It could.. So maybe New Years Eve/January? Again, could mesh well with the rebirth of the exchange.

I think if a theme/time decision is made soon, we could start spreading the word that the exchange is happening again. And that could help with the competing with other fic drives.

I like! :)

So here's how the timeline went on the last LJ exchange:

Round Seven
Here are the dates for this round:
April 27-May 4 - signups
May 6-9 - prompt picking
May 11 - assignments sent out
June 24 - fics due
June 27 - start posting

Basically, there were about two weeks between signups and prompt picking, and about a month and a half before the fics were due. There was also a date after all of this for nominations. I don't think that EVERY one of these dates ended up being totally stuck to... but the overall feel I get is that there was about a month between the first signups and when people were supposed to start writing.

So if we picked New Year's Eve (or day) as the first signup date, then people would actually start *writing* about the beginning of February. OTOH, if we started on, say, December 1, then NYD would be the actual start-writing day. So we wouldn't compete with all those Xmas fic exchanges. I think I'll email Rowan and find out when the ffnet group is having theirs so we don't clash! :)

I'm going to do an outline of exactly how the LJ exchange worked the last time they did it...

And if ANYONE wants to volunteer to HELP with all of this, now is the time to speak! ;)

So I'm talking with Seegrim about this right now (well, not at this exact second... you know what I mean. ;) and starting to firm up some ideas.

I'm starting to lean towards the idea of starting all of it on November 15th. If THAT is what we ended up with.... it might go something like this.

November 15th-Dec 1: signups
December 4-7: prompt picking.
Dec 10: assignments sent out
January 20th: fics due
January 23rd: start posting.

If we did that, then we wouldn't be competing with Xmas challenges, because we wouldn't expect any fics back until the middle of January. THOUGHTS??

This time frame puts the majority of writing time over Christmas break for students and (ahem) DG loving science teachers (who are normally up to their eyeballs in paperwork and student papers that run through red pens like nobody's business, just sayin'). It could allow more people to participate by freeing them up from papers and other workloads.

I'd be willing to lend a hand (or two) if you still need the help. I'm stuck using only a mobile device right now, but I will have computer access Saturday.

SempreEadem @ Oct 17, 2013 03:31 pm

tls: I like the way you think. :) And people would also be able to finish writing in January, rather than trying to fit it into any other Xmas exchanges they might be doing.

SE: YAY!!! I'll be in Seattle this weekend and I won't be online much, but let's email next week. Your help will be muchly appreciated. But Seegrim said that it REALLY isn't that much work for the helper mods... I'll forward you the info she sent me.

Anise @ Oct 17, 2013 06:28 pm

I'm back. Yay! Absolutely no net access for FIVE DAYS. =:O But somehow I survived. Sempre, could you send me your email? I'll try to msg you through FB too, in case you don't see it here.
