So... a very good read, and a great argument for fanfiction! I found this bit interesting: "as Harry grows up through the books, and deals with death, violence, and madness, he does not engage with his sexuality." ...because it makes so much sense in the Curious Crossover i've mentally made out of the HP series and the movie Swiss Army Man (think if Harry had actually lost to Voldemort) and tell me if that's all crazy or if it kind of makes weird sense. Hahaha. Also though this paragraph was excellent: Thus, I argue that the Draco/Ginny fandom is a comfortable space of support and community, one that is centred upon an appreciation for ideas and an unleashing of the imagination. The fanfic fandom is one which is premised upon the choices that one is allowed to make, both for characters within the Harry Potter universe, as well as for the writers who seek to write alternative narratives of the existing canon. ---- all in all, a very good article.

I'm really seeing a crossover fic here. :) Actually, this might get me to see *Swiss Army Man*... I have a vague idea that Dan Radcliffe is (SPOILER SPACE if you don't know anything at all about the movie, I guess) dragged around as a dead body in some strange way during the entire thing??

Anyway... that also makes me think that it's true, Harry never really did engage. He was attacked by a chest monster which he ultimately did everything he could to fight off. In a lot of ways, he spent more energy rejecting Ginny than he ever did in engaging with her in any way (basically never had a word to say to her until the chest monster attacked, dropped her in a way that any idiot would know was not going to protect her, walked right past her at the very end of the seventh book, completely ignored her and didn't say one word to her in the epilogue...) Okay, there really is more of that D/G essay coming out at SOME point. ;)

Anise @ Mar 20, 2017 06:36 pm

Harry does spend more time rejecting her than accepting her. Her infatuation was embarrassing to him and I doubt he ever really did more than take her for granted. As for Swiss Army Man. It's... an interesting movie. I was somewhat amused, somewhat disturbed, and more or less vaguely uncomfortable throughout the film. I don't wanna give away any details really, lol. Strange. Strange, strange, strange. Far stranger in fact that D/G being a possibility!
