Ah, Mynuet. I heartily adore you! :) haha When I first read bands, I confess -- I had no connection of an American Idol take, but, quite frankly, it's Wonderful. Makes the plot move along quite swimmingly, and the quippy lines are of the uber coolness. YAY! :)
...Hrm. I think "It's Gonna Be Me" would be hilarious. Or some 80s: "I Touch Myself" for an encore. =b

I don't know what you have planned for Malfoy's band, and this isn't exactly the genre you're talking about, but wouldn't Draco look absolutely fab dressed up like Adam Ant?
Anyway, I'm loving the story. It's light and fluffy, and I forsee some great snark.

You could try one of the Arctic Monkey's songs they're quite rock/pop. If you were to choose one of them I would suggest either Dancing Shoes, Fake Tales From San Fransisco or I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor.

Hee hee! I see you chose option (b). I guess I can't argue too much! This is pretty funny. I particularly like Harry's cluelessness.
As far as songs go, there is one cheesy pop song that just popped into my head. It would probably be entirely OOC for Draco to sing, and therefore might be really funny. I think it might be from the late '80s rather than late '90's, though. Anyway, how about "More Than Words"?
