I read this story many years ago. When I was just a teenager. Now that I am an adult and in love with an amazing man (who oddly bears more than a passing resemblance to your description of Draco) I can appreciate its themes that much more. Thanks you for sharing your talent with all of us. I hope you continue writing even though the series has concluded. Harry Potter will always live on in the hearts of those whose imagination it captured.

Thank you for an incredibly entertaining day of reading!

I realize it's been ages since you wrote this, so you must feel very far removed from it, but I just wanted to let you know how enjoyable it was. You had an unusually good pace for a fanfic story (not always romance-centric, not always plot-centric) and I loved seeing an actual realistic bent to their relationship. Laughed my ass off at "Draco was too much of a snob to follow Voldemort". In any case, thank you for writing!

Yay! I loved this story! I'm so glad I found it again.

Also, I was wondering if your name is purposely taken from the gaelic for rain? I assume so and I think its pretty neat - My real name is gaelic (Januarybaby obviously isn't) as I'm third generation Irish in Australia and I love that you are helping to keep the language alive.

Author's Response: Hi! I haven't checked my reviews here in ages, so I just found this. But yes, my username was chosen because it means "rain" in Gaelic. My ancestry is Scottish and I spent some time learning Gaelic when I was in uni. (Long, long time ago, now.) Thank you for commenting!

Wonderful - Amazing- Brilliant - Super Dooper - Fantastic - Remarkable - Incredible - Marvelous - Astonishing - Astounding

I was just going through all the words that come to mind when thinking of this story and you. Needless to say, I rather enjoyed the hour or so it took me to devour this. Thank You for taking the time to take it from your brain to share with others. :)

I loved it! tis a pity tho that you dont want to write a sequel but i do find myself satified with just this so thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Author's Response: I'm belatedly responding to my reviews...I never wrote a sequel, but there are 3 other short stories set in this universe, under the "series" tag if you are interested in them. Thank you!

I love this story. I love how it constructs a believable scenario where a Draco/Ginny romance could blossom and that it does so in a fashion that takes into account their own development. I love that the characters ring true - not just Draco and Ginny but many of the supporting players, too.

It drew me in right from the beginning with having Ginny be so affected by the diary. It's never really touched upon in the series again (I could be wrong since it's been ages since I read them) and you'd think this would be a very traumatic experience that'd have a lasting effect on her so to go that route of exploring how this changed her and how it continues to haunt her is inspired. Not just for Ginny's character but for a way for her to make a connection with Draco that's believable, genuine and sweet (after the confusion and angst of course).

And Draco. He is so in character and I love that sooo much. It definitely wouldn't be easy for him everything he's gone through throughout the story, and that it doesn't shy away from his prejudices and flaws makes the romance all the more grounded and real. That their struggles come not only from external pressures but from their own clashing personalities and very different backgrounds enriches the relationship I think, and makes it all the more satisfying when they do find their way.

This only scratches the surface of why I love this story so much. I actually stumbled across it years ago when I think it was still a WIP. Only recently decided to read D/G fic again but I couldn't remember the title or author or anything except for the basic plot but I remember I enjoyed it so much and was wondering if I'd stumble across it again on this site. Even though I had no idea this was the very same story, I was engrossed from the beginning without knowing I already read and loved it before and only realized for certain that this was the same story once the boggart came into the picture and man I was SO happy.

I absolutely love reading this story every time I do. I like how Draco is portrayed and how he leaves for himself and not to be brave. I love reading this story and I can't wait to read more of your stories! :)

Beautifully done. You've managed to tie together both what was known and what was likely at the time you started this, and you've also incorporated a wonderfully fleshed out view of magical/muggle perceptions (and the varieties of them that exist). I also find Arthur's hypocrisy a nice touch - in the end, he is doing to Draco what Ginny found so objectionable under only a slightly veneer when the words were in Draco's mouth - judging based upon bloodline, as opposed to personal actions or abilities. All around a lovely piece of work - well done!

Okay - I didn't know where the end was really because this chap is called "epilogue" and somehow, the danger was over in chap nine, but I also enjoyed this last (and largest) piece of your fic. And apparently, there were still things to clarify.
Ah, Mr. Weasley was so canon... however, I was mildly sursprised, and, well, shocked, how her parents received the news and tried to put a ban on meeting or doing anything with him. That makes a good, realistic story, of course (without conflicts, it wouldn't be all that suspenseful ;)), but it was a real sad moment... poor Ginny. And Draco. I can't see why writing letters would be so damaging, hmph. I guess I would have got very defiant at this point of time, indeed.

Bill was understanding, that's a pretty nice thing (for a start). "Not A baby, but you are THE baby. They worry about you. And I hate to tell you, but you'll never outgrow that. Just give Dad a bit of time, he'll calm down." - Hear, hear! But he got an important factor there. I don't think she'll ever be (even in the original books) anything else than the baby of the family and that's why they make such a "fuss". Yeah. Very well explained!

Then they were in Hogwarts, again... finally. I was quite keen on that, especially with the adults there not telling her much. And the reunion with Draco (though it was VERY clear whom she would rather visit, right away from this paragraph on), beautiful! I enjoyed that he was so thunderstruck. And their kiss, and her outbreak, and the simple potion that makes her feel better. Draco really knows his subject, that piece of information is never bad. ;P
I could also understand their awareness and... Ginny's sensibility. Or the rationality about going further. It just seemed very suitable in this situation. *shrugs*
And I liked the routine after that, too. The next meeting with Harry, Ron and Hermione HAD to come, and I don't like how hostile they seemed to be but you probably couldn't stop that so soon. Draco's state and thoughts were so fascinating however!

Next, the Weasleys... oh, it's still a bit gripping how she shouldn't be upset, and when she hears about Charlie... I'd thought it would be a tougher moment but anyway, it's an explanation for Molly and the others, why they didn't tell her. Poor Charlie!
I'm getting used to Ginny being vulnerable. ;)

The dialogue with Ron... great work again! So, then he knows about it, as well. It was somehow hilarious that definitely sided with Ginny (because the sweater must've really been a treat for the eyes, and it's GOOD to know, Ron didn't go mad again - he wasn't bothered by the thought of her and Harry at all, either, was he? That's cool). You could, for once, see that they are brother and sister. =)

During the next paragraph it was clearly getting more to an end... did I mention that I found it, well, not that bad, that Draco's father died in the battle? I could also see Narcissa sort of "escaping" to Europe.
Ginny's and Draco's talk about that was really sweet. (And yeah, they had probably been apart from each other for too long again - it's always that way and it's still realistic)

The last aspect of the fic - Doing things on her own, rebel against her family. It's, again, somewhat surprising how imperious and keen they all were to make her do what they wanted but no criticism there - and finally being... healthy and not so easily influenceable, I guess that was the best way to end "Dark directed", where Ginny becomes independent at last. A flat, and being an Auror and visiting Draco at Hogwarts... that'll be great!
And I can actually understand Molly - I can't believe she's really only seventeen at that time!
I hope, and I can imagine, however, that her family will recognize SOMEday that she's happy with Draco. *smiles* I don't have much of a problem with an open end.

Soo, now I have to repeat it: It was a damn good fic, just capturing Ginny/Draco (on a basis of understanding, Tom, the DADA room and Ginny's calm, plain appearance during the fic, which got better in the end, though). How they overcame hate, and doubts, their (families') attitudes. I think all parts of the fic had a well, really well developed plot line, it revolved about every possible difficulty of the relationship, families, friends, enemies, waiting, desire, even all the studying was enjoyable to read. And the being-bed-stricken part... I don't think it was too long, it possibly couldn't be.

Oh, and I haven't mentioned the quote yet: Shakespeare's cool. End of story. He simply rocks, right?
So does this fanfic. And I won't ask about a sequel, of course. Keep it up, though, write something else to enchant your readers.

Lots of love!

this story is really really good. and really freaking long, i have no idea how you were able to write all those chapters that were all that long, honestly, you astound me, brilliantly really. haha. i just love how draco kept trying to get gin to let him leave her. haha. even though he'd rather gouge his eyes out. haha.

This was one of the first D/G fics I ever read, and I'm so glad that I found it again. I'm impressed by how your characters can grow and change so much while remaining essentially canon - like Ginny's realization that Draco's too much of a snob to serve Voldemort! :) Fantastic job all around.

Come on...not even an "I love you" at the end???????? The last two chapters were a bit disappointing to me. Overall, a great plot, but the last two chapters left MUCH to be desired.

I thought I should review to express my appreciation for this great story. It drew me in immediatly. Plus the writing was great, dare I say, nearly flawless. My only complaint is that it ended too quickly. I think this is one of my fave D/G fics.
