One other thing: it always puzzles me that Lucius being cruel/abusive to Draco or Narcissa is a staple of fanfic. There's no evidence for it in canon that I can see and, quite to the contrary, Lucius seems to dote on Draco. Hmmm.........

Oh, another thing. The Hogwart's shield says, "Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus" which means something like 'don't wake a sleeping dragon'. Could that be a reference to Draco's 'awakening' a la Paul Atreides in Dune and helping to save the day in book 7?
Marcia

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the kind words, Marcia. Sorry, I have no other hidden D/G stories -- this is my first foray into HP fic, after years of writing in the Emergency! fandom. As for Lucius' abusive nature, I based it on the way he treats Draco in "Chamber" when they're in Borgin and Burke's. (He's snarking about Draco not doing as well as Hermione.)Maybe it was my own personal experience coming into play, but I thought that verbal abuse such as that could very easily turn to physical abuse. I like your theory about the Hogwarts crest foreshadowing Draco's awakening and possible salvation. I hope to see it happen in book 7! Peace! Nola

I am constantly amazed when I find a story in the recently updated that has been available for awhile and I have not read it....I read everything....or at least I try to....one question of a Cabal type....I thought that the Death Eaters, Lucius in particular did not know that Voldemorte was Tom Riddle....if that is true, he wouldn't have mentioned that is 16 year old self, was Tom Riddle? Am I mistaken about this or did you just choose to gloss that over to allow for how Snape could figure out what happened when Ginny said "....no, Tom....." Just curious. I am really enjoying the story, since there are many more chapters available I am off for more reading and will review again on the most recent chapter

Author's Response: I DO think that some of the Death Eaters know about Tom Riddle. As we saw in HBP, many of today's Death Eaters are the sons of Tom Riddle's classmates, and I can't believe some of those men wouldn't brag about being at Hogwarts with him ("I knew him back when he was only Tom Riddle, a poor orphan, long before he became the greatest wizard who ever lived"). That said, I DON'T believe they knew he was a half-blood. I'm sure Tom played up his status as a descendent of Salizar Sytherin, probably claiming the father he never knew was a powerful wizard. Plus, Voldemort is kind of taking Snape and Lucius into his confidence in that chapter, so he might be a bit more open than normal. Do those explanations make sense? Or should I just go ahead and say I glossed things over?

Good chapter! Especially with the talking in teh sleep. Or was that really an interactive dream and Tom was really actually making her do something right then. I guess I'll have to wait for teh next chapter. It was really awful having to wait. dracoandginny.com said that you had updated but it only showed two chapters in the story index, but I knew you had updated when i looked at the reviews for chapters. I'm so glad I finally got to read it. :D :D :D
