Although I hate the idea of Ginny dying, I'm left wondering whether she's better off at the end. And that saddens me so much because she and Draco are supposed to be happy together. He's not supposed to hurt her.

But all the while that I'm mourning him holding her back and hurting her, I'm enjoying the realism of it. There are so many DG stories that end happily-ever-after, and I absolutely love them for it, but getting a pinch of realism in the mix can sometimes be just as satisfyingly unsatisfying.

I'm not even sure if that makes sense. What I mean is that there's something very satisfying in reading a story with a sad ending that's based in truth.

Author's Response: I have to admit, I usually cave and make a happy ending, but the aesthetics of the story would not allow it this time. I'm glad this worked for you. It was different for me, but I liked writing it. It certainly made a change from fluff.

I always get excited when I see you update an old or new story.I'v been a huge fan of yours for god knows how long. Been reading D/G fics since 2003, i think.

This story was another of your many brilliant stories. The beginning of the story had a lil fluff to it, but the ending was dark and bitter-sweet. Loved it!

“...hate is such a tiring emotion to feel. It's much easier to be indifferent." - This really got to me. It is so true.

I just love how descriptive your stories are.You are a fantastic writer! One of my favourites.Thank your for sharing these with us!Great job!

Author's Response: Aww, thank you. It's always a pleasure to know someone is actually enjoying what I write.

The beginning did have a little fluff to it. I wanted the beginning to feel sweet and romantic so that the end would have more power. I'm glad that came through.

I've always felt that hate is such a stupid emotion. You have to fuel it with bitterness to keep it alive otherwise it dies anyway. It really is much easier to be indifferent.

Anyway, thanks for the wonderful review. It really made my morning. ^_^

Oh, I really like this Kim. It's so bitter-sweet. Ginny is so different, but in a good way, I find.

I can see that you strayed from your normal humour/romance (with fluff), and you are going for realism, which is often sad. I am left wondering what made Ginny so wild and carefree. So many little mysteries.

What I love the most about this story are your little descriptions: She was so close I could count the tiny freckles on her nose and see the different shades of brown that painted her irises. You just sprinkle them throughout the fic, and it makes it such a pleasure to read. I am reminded of licking chocolate off fingers. Delicious. ^^

Author's Response: Thanks, Lia. That's a compliment indeed. ^_^

I've had a couple of comments from my FF reviewers that they felt Ginny was more like Luna (which I knew was a danger when I first got the idea), but I like to think she still has her usual Ginny spirit. I really wanted to write a more carefree and wild Ginny -- one who doesn't have to be held back by family rivalries or even people's expectations -- and I loved the idea of creating a character who has such a deep connection with the land, wind and rain (as I do myself). I also wanted to steer well clear of the typical 'bantering' DG story that I normally write. You're right, I didn't want to write fluff, but I always knew it was going to be bittersweet in the end.

Man, I really really love this. It just...seems right. Draco ultimately snuffs out Ginny's fire because he tries to mold her into something she's not. And, just that end part about the bird in the cage and the empty cage: perfection. Yeah, it's not the happiest DG, but this one kept me thinking for a long time after I'd read it. So, definitely kudos to you because I think you really fulfilled the avant-garde challenge and took a step away from the fluffier DG one-shots (which, I love. Nothing wrong with them at all). But wow, this one was great. Good job, Kim!

Author's Response: Thank you. I was really trying to do something different with this, so I'm glad that came through and that you could still enjoy it for what it was. ^_^
