This whole story was so cute and sad and wonderful. :)

Well ended. I was ready to be disappointed after that last chapter, yet you did quite well with it. It was a pleasure to read this. STT

Author's Response: Hehe. Almost all of my stories will have happy endings, but I felt like Ginny rushing into a relationship with Draco would make her a really unlikable character. I'm so glad you enjoyed this story. :)

Why would Charlie be getting married at Malfoy Manor? I know that's not what I'm supposed to take from this chapter but it bugged me throughout...

Author's Response: I actually had a line of dialogue in the original draft that explained it, but I took it out for some reason. Oops. It was basically just supposed to be a favor to Charlie because Draco had made right with Molly and the Weasleys (except for Ginny) in the previous chapter.

Argh I thought it will all go well from now but it's not :( Hope Ginny will come to her senses and Draco lowering his pride even for a little bit. Don't worry I don't hate you for this chapter but it just annoys me that both of them are stubborn in one way or another just like their true personality! Hope to see the epilogue soon!

Author's Response: Heh, well, I am glad you don't hate me. I don't want to say much because I don't want to spoil the epilogue if you haven't read it yet, so I'll just tell you that it's up! Hope you enjoy the rest of the story. :)

I'm kinda brassed at the way this is going. It doesn't look good. Anxiously awaiting the epilogue.

Author's Response: I figured everyone would hate me for this chapter, but it is necessary for the conclusion.

Oh, I should also add - that I felt the way you handled Harry's reaction of the whole thing was appropriate for his character - pretty much exactly what I would imagine. That is what I would expect for the way you've presented him in this story - mature, accepting, and a very good husband.

I liked his line in this chapter.

Author's Response: Thanks :)
Name: Almicene reviewed The Damage Done on Jun 15, 2012 07:54 am
Definitely not happy with this chapter. It borders on the characters being somewhat bipolar. Super sappy one minute then rejecting the next. And then you can reverse it for Draco, rejecting at first then more sappy than I think it warrants for his character, and then finally rejecting again almost like a yo-yo. For example, I don't see him 'whispering' to anyone - doesn't really seem the style of a dominant, snarky alpha male. And you have him doing it twice in this chapter. I think the "said quietly" is fine; I suppose it's the diction and the emotions each word choice evokes that makes the difference.

And Ginny seems to be a bit of a drama queen here, not what I'd expect from a mature woman. You have her as a very bold/strong woman, but she's hiding behind her brother to avoid seeing Draco? She immediately goes to her mother then her brother telling them all the bad things Draco's said to her? I'd understand one but not both - it's fine to have a confidant, but when you basically turn them against someone that could potentially be your spouse... That's not something I see her doing since she's been married for a while and would know this from experience.

And at the end Ginny is being overly dramatic again. Dating Draco would be destroying "everything?" I can forgive some lapse of judgement earlier, heat of the moment/etc. but she was polyjuiced for what - a week? At some point you think, what am I really doing? And she liked Draco and wanted to husband-swap. I realize you have her saying she had time to think about things, but it's such a jump to go from husband swap to don't want to do anything with you right now. I'd probably say taking it slowly would have been more appropriate.

Anyways, just my two cents/constructive criticism. To be fair, it's probably influenced by the fact it's my least favorite chapter out of the entire story.

You get kudos though for keeping pov consistent in the chapter rather than bouncing from character to character like inexperienced writers do.

Author's Response: Let me start by saying that this chapter, and the way it is set up, is necessary for the conclusion of the story. I knew no one would be happy, which is why I am glad that the epilogue is already ready to be posted. As for Draco's character, the previous two chapters were meant to show that he was realizing that he was making a mistake by pushing Ginny away, hence his change of heart in this chapter. I don't really think that him whispering puts him out of character, though. As for Ginny, I never said she went crying to both her mother AND George. She went only to George, but her mother knew her well enough to know who she went to. I implied that Molly knew what had gone on between the two, but that could have been from George telling his mother what had happened with Ginny, or Harry. She also didn't say she wanted nothing to do with Draco at all. She said she couldn't have a relationship, and because of that, Draco was irritated. She had been the straw that broke the camel's back in his marriage, and for her to openly reject him was enough for him to decide he wanted nothing to do with her. Remember that HE is the one who walked out in the final scene. Draco pushing her away initially and her having time to talk to other people and think was what made her realize that a relationship with Draco would cause too much damage for her children, especially since they'd already have to deal with a divorce. The fact that they were swapped for a week doesn't mean anything; the tension and the feelings between them had been going on for long before they realized, which is something that had also been built up to in previous chapters. Going to George was also not because she wanted to "turn him against" Draco, but she went to him because he was the only one who knew about the polyjuice to begin with. It's fine that you don't like the chapter, as I figured that most people would not, but this is what I had planned from the beginning because it is the only way that I feel would resolve this story. If Draco had gone to Ginny and she would have openly accepted him, everyone would have told me that there was no way that that could happen, either. This was the only way, in my opinion, of having both Draco and Ginny want to be with each other, but not turn Ginny into a completelly selfish and irredeemable character. Everything, however, will be resolved in the epilogue, and believe me when I say that I don't like unhappy endings. This chapter was just something that had to be done.

It's unusual reading such a nice, understanding Harry in a breakup scene for a DG fic. Haha. That Astoria and Harry are both such nice characters are a rarity in DG stories, but you made said characterizations work in this story.

I really liked how you handled the breakup scene for both couples. The only part that seemed a little odd to me was that bit with Ginny smiling as she said I'm sorry-I think she probably should still be feeling bad at this point as this was before Harry told her he's not mad. I'm certainly forward to DG's next confrontation now that both canon couples have been broken up. ;) I'm also curious about how you'll be handling Ginny's kids' reactions.

Author's Response: That was one thing I decided on before I even began writing this. I didn't want to turn Astoria and Harry into "bad guys" in any way. But trust me when I say that Ginny is definitely still feeling bad, and you'll see that in the next chapter when Draco and Ginny meet again!

Great! the realization on everyone's part that was was right, is right, and what was wrong, well... it's no point dwelling on the past. Lots of maturity shown on all parts, which is probably no what would happen in real life, but makes this particular story work so well. The hidden resentment is a great theme that is so common in almost any relationship. You've handled it very well. Looking forward to the ending. Should be a good one!

Author's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and thought the character reactions were good. I was so worried about how this would go over! Thanks for the review :)

I just realized the Ginny has really thought everything through. Even supposing she and Astoria somehow manage to "switch" she still going to have to go and have a conversation that goes likes this "So everybody remember the Death Eater that poisioned Ron and let Greyback into the castle so he could maim Bill? Well he's going to be around a lot more,"

Thats going to be a trainwreck in and of itself the whole divorce/swap thing aside.

Author's Response: Well, yes, but that applies to any DG fic that has any canon-compliancy, doesn't it? Thanks for the review! :)

Draco's fond of the word "harpy", isn't he? ;)

I don't think I'm as inclined to put all the blame on either Ginny and Astoria as some have been. Maybe both Draco and Harry should have realized in the first place that they weren't really marrying for the right reasons. And as Draco said, he could have seen much more about what was going on if he wanted to. (I suspect that Harry could have done this too.) Still, it's a mess! I look forward to seeing how you're going to resolve it... or not... or whatever ends up happening.

Author's Response: Yes, yes he does like that word. Okay, so maybe that's self-insertion. I love that word, haha. :P

THANK YOU! What a lot of people aren't getting here is that this problem existed long before they ever made the switch, and the fact that Draco and Harry both ignored the obvious signs of their wives acting is also on them. They chose not to, and all four of them let their situations get out of control. Thanks so much for your review and for seeing it from the other side. :)

Yes that certainly made everyone's feelings pretty clear... just not the feelings they're supposed to be feeling! They (Ginny/Draco & Astoria/Harry) were supposed to fall into each other's arms when the truth came up and live happily ever after. Definitely without any of the angst in this chapter!

And after that short rant, I am very much looking forward to the end :) :)

Author's Response: Oh, don't worry. I believe in happy endings, but having them fall immediately into each other's arms would not have been realistic at all. :P. Thanks for the review!

That was a hilarious way for Harry and Draco to have bonded. I must confess that I don't quite understand the extent of Draco's anger. Wasn't his wife just as much at fault, or is he just deflecting a lot of it on to Ginny? Poor girl. You did a great job with conveying her emotional state. Draco said some pretty cruel things to her, so he better make it up to her big time. What I also really like about this whole story in general is that neither Harry and Astoria is vilified, but both come naturally to an understanding of the state of their relationships.

Author's Response: Draco is pretty deflated by Ginny. He had thought so highly of her and, over the years, he fell in love with her, and so her deceitful behavior hit him pretty hard. But you are right; Astoria is equally as responsible for the situation. The difference is, he never really liked Astoria all that much. But worry not, I believe in happy endings above all else, and the scene with Harry and Draco serves as a way for Draco to start seeing that Ginny felt just as stuck in her marriage as he felt in his. :) Thanks for reviewing!
