This is off to an interesting start. I don't think I've ever read a fic where Ron and Draco are best mates and making Astoria Ron's love interest is the icing on the cake, it's very original. I cannot wait for the next chapter.

Author's Response: I think I was inspired from one too many fics where Ron was just unrealistically unreasonable, so I decided to twist it around. Tho, I think Ron and Draco really do have a lot in common, based on the old family wizard heritage and I can see them making a connection at a more base level, where Ron's friendship with Harry and Hermione would differ, because they both were raised in Muggle society. I just see it as a connection that could be build on, if they let it happen. Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for the review!

Love! I like that Ginny came around on her own and it was something as simple and human as heartbreak that brought her around. Everyone feels it and she can relate. Love this! Eagerly awaiting the next one, especially since the feelings are due to change.

Author's Response: Thank you! And yes, more coming soon. Next chapter is written and kind of in the "soak" phase - where I need to not look at it for a little bit before the next round of edits.
Hugs!

Ah, this was such a great chapter. I'll say it again, but I love how you write Ron. I want him for a best mate! And I also like how you humanised the Greengrasses, making Daphne and Astoria girls Ginny could actually hang out with.

The drunken confession and sloppy kiss had me both laughing and melting. I really can't wait for their relationship to develop. Obviously Draco likes her. ;)

Author's Response: Oh Draco definitely has a crush on her. And I loved getting him drunk! Poor Ginny doesn't know what to make of him after that. :) Glad you liked the Greengrass sisters too. Daphne kind of wrote herself and, unfortunately, Astoria is a bit in the background because she's a little shy, but she's a much better fit for our Ron than Hermione could ever be, IMHO. So glad you enjoyed, and thanks so much for the feedback!

Love the way the story is going; having Draco and Ron as friends is a refreshing change of pace ( I like your portrayal of Ron better then the books!). The story is enjoyable to read and believable, and no grammar mistakes! Please keep it up, I am looking forward to the next installment.

Author's Response: Thank you!!! It's easy to make Ron better than the books tho - in the books he was always so boring and two-dimensional, so I'll just blame my portrayal on letting him grow up a bit. :) So glad you are enjoying it and, no worries, next chapter is written.

I really, REALLY like the way this fic is going. Yes, this premise is unusual. But at this point in the fandom, canon as we know it was closed six years ago. (There will be more canon of a kind, and I think there's every reason to believe that it will have applicability to D/G... it's all in the essay on the Long-Lost Drive of Doom, AND IT WILL BE WRITTEN even if the experts can't recover the files...:(

But the point is that considering what we know now-- which is all we can ever be sure of-- HP canon is done. It's going to be a couple of years or so before we really get anything new. That means that it's hard to find new things if fics stick as closely as possible to the plain facts of what actually happened in canon. (It can be done-- Ginocide's amazing new fic *See Me Use You* is a good example. That's kind of the exception that proves the rule, though-- there just aren't enough fics exploring Ginny's seventh year at school.) We're not going to get far if all we do is keep going over and over and over the same ground.

And your fic is one that doesn't do that. Considering what we know, it is not at all unbelievable that Draco would be behaving and thinking this way after the war. It's just that it is not a common canon trope. But D/G was never explored in canon; we've always had to use our creativity to write about it. Draco and Ginny clearly never got together in the books or films; we always created that scenario. So now, we have to branch out and create NEW tropes if this fandom is to grow, and we can do it. We know it's possible, because others have done it (D/Hr being a great example.) We need writers like you to pull it off. And you're doing it very, very well. :) New aspects of everyone's character are turning up, and readers want to know how it's all going to play out.

So.... great work, and I hope to see more soon! :)

Author's Response: Thank you for such a lovely analysis! My favorite stories tend to be AU, so perhaps it's easier for me to reach into alternative scenarios. I look forward to your essay (so sorry that it suffered such an unfortunate setback!) because you've obviously put a great deal of thought into it. Have a wonderful holiday break, and thank you again for your wonderful work at promoting this site and inspiring all these wonderful writers to continue. :)

I love that Ron and Draco's friendship was gradual. I also think it's great that Ginny is so forlorn about the whole situation. I can't wait to read more!

Author's Response: Thanks so much! will probably fill in more in later chapters. I kind of like Ginny's stubborness here - gives much more chance to do more with character interactions. So glad you like it!

omg this premise was a plot bunny that had been hopping around in my head and you've written it perfectly. I'm so looking forward to seeing where you go with it.

/He crossed his arms and glared at her. “I'm free to see whoever I please.”/ -pwahaha, loved it!

Author's Response: LOL! awesome! I'm not surprised that someone else might have considered a similar take on this. I seemed to be seeing so many "G & D start out as friends" stories, that I was getting sick of the plot line. There was so little variety there, especially if they included Ron, that I couldn't resist twisting it around a bit. Glad you like it! :) And, btw, you are the second person to pick out that same quote from Ron - I think Ron was channeling his inner Malfoy. :D Thanks again.

Very interesting start to a story here. Most original I've seen in a long while. Ron and Malfoy starting off as friends? It's weird. I'm not used to seeing Ron be all mature like. Will definitely be coming back to see where this story is going. :) And I really like that Harry and Hermione parts so far.

Author's Response: Glad that you like it! I figured that Ron needed to grow up at some point, and being separated from the trio gave him that chance. After having read a lot of D/G "friends" storie, I found I was totallyt bored with that plot and decided to twist it up a bit. More to come soon. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Thank you so much for returning to writing!
I'm loving this story. It's so refreshing! I've grown tired of all the stories where Ron pitches a fit over Ginny's relationship with Malfoy. And you didn't simply reverse Ron-Ginny roles here. Ginny's fit is different and her own rather than imitating Ron in similar position. I'm happy you included the story of how Ron and Draco became friends. I also am very curious if Draco already liked Ginny when he started his acquaintance with Ron.
And area we going to see Harry and Hermione and their reactions?

Looking forward towards the next chapter!!

Author's Response: You are most welcome, and you are also awesome for sending such a kind review. :) Back issues this past year made it horribly uncomfortable to sit and write. This story has been in my half-finished pile for some time. So glad you are enjoying it.

I always love your stories and this one is no different. That 'grew on him like a fungus' line was so funny to me because I say it a lot.

I also love how simple and believable the story Ron tells about his and Draco's friendship is, and that it gives Ginny insights into their relationship.

Author's Response: hahaha! I always use that term about the fungus. I almost didn't put it in the story because I thought it was cliche. Glad that it worked. :D

I can't tell you how much I love this fic. Your portrayal of Ron is brilliant. His maturity is believable and, honestly, I'm glad. He got the least development out of the trio, and that's saying a lot since none of them really developed much.

Draco's teasing of Ginny is cute, imho. He obviously likes her. Maybe not romantically (yet), but his behaviour is a hybrid of Malfoy and Weasley (twins) and it makes me smile.

I knew Ginny's ego would get knocked down a peg or two. Like she was going to beat that team, even with Charlie.

Can't wait for the next chapter. :)

Author's Response: Oh yay! Totally agree that Ron was so two dimensional in canon that I couldn't stand him, but when I started exploring the sibling relationship in a couple of my other fics, I saw some potential to give him some depth. He needs to get away from the trio - they stifle him. Draco - well - I think he's finally feeling free, possibly more free than he's been in his entire life, because he's been isolated from almost every bad influence he's ever had. The brothers are having fun with helping him bust on Ginny a bit, since she's been such a pill. I'm so glad you like it all. I've had a blast with these variations on the characters, so glad that it came through to you. :)

I must give you kudos for this wonderful story. Its so captivating, Ron and Draco's interactions are just so cute, I need to see what happens next! Even Fred and George being friendly with Draco after he saved Ginny just made my heart flutter in a good way. Its rare to see a fic that works in this angle so well, you should really be proud of yourself for this astounding first chapter.

I'll definitely be reading this one, keep it updated as much as your plot bunny will let you!

Author's Response: You are too kind! I was so flattered that I didn't know how to respond. LOL Thank you! I do love character interactions, and was reading a whole bunch of "Ginny and Draco are best friends" and wanted to find a fresh angle. Thank you for letting me know it worked and, I promise, more to come soon.

Ah, this is just brilliant! I do love it when a convincing Draco-Ron friendship is presented. Too often Ron is made a horribly villain, so I'm really glad that you're changing his personality around for the better. Who would have thought that they'd be such a great influence on one another?

Is it weird that I'm more excited for the bromance than the DG romance?

Author's Response: Thank you! I think Ron is one of the least developed characters in canon, and his role in fanfic tends to be a little flat as a result. I like exploring the brother-sister relationship and I enjoy twisting the typical plot lines around. :) And, yes, I'm kind of enjoying the bromance too - I think you'll love chap 3. Thank you again!

Let me start by saying that i absolutely loved it! I have been a member of this site for Years and have read my way through most of these lovely Fics. Your angle is very refreshing and comedic! I cannot wait to read more!

She's back! Back, I tell you! And she's posting again! YAY!!!

(runs around maniacally, kind of like a Zumba class gone horribly wrong)

What an unusual take on Weasley family-Draco relations! This isn't something I've seen very often, and I'm really intrigued. This certainly is what Ron's mental state might have been at the time. I can see how the situation could have arisen. Still, ARE the Weasleys actually all under some kind of Confounding spell? The reader has to wonder... ;) More soon, I hope. And I've kind of had that happen at some points in the past... longer and more complex stories, and... NO!!!

(beats back rabid plot bunny with a plastic butter knife.)

So be careful. You don't want that to happen to you. ;)

Author's Response: rotfl. I adore the rabid plot bunny. I promise that thou shalt not be left in suspense for very long. This little fic has been in my "nearly completed" pile for some time and started beating on me, demanding that it be allowed to roam free. Believe it or not, the biggest hurdle was coming up with a proper title. Ron, who always seemed a bit two-dimensional to me in canon has a bit of potential, given the proper motivation. So, I'd been reading too many stories where Ginny was the one to become "best friends" with our darling Draco, and thought that it might be fun to twist it around a bit (I'm weird like that) . And thank you so much for the feedback!
Hugs!

I'm really loving carefree Ron. Usually, in fictions he's the one who is most agitated and grouchy and anti-Draco/Ginny so this is refreshing. It's fun to see. I hope you update soon.

Author's Response: Thank you! and yes, update coming soon. Just have some minor polishing to do. :)

Love! I love the one-sided frustration and just how cavalier Ron is about the friendship. Is it wrong for me that I can easily believe Harry and Hermione ignoring Ron while they're off pursuing their career.

Author's Response: From reading the books, I truly did see Hermione going off on her own quite easily, especially if she gets to be in the company of other intellectual types. It really wasn't hard to envision. Harry too, he'll be so absorbed with wanting to succeed at being an Auror that he'll be fully focused on that for a bit. Ron needs a friend who needs him. I always thought of him as the heart of the group. I also always thought that his relationship with Ginny and the rest of his family was really ignored in canon, so it's fun to build some interaction between Ginny and Ron, and loosen him up a bit. :)

This is an interesting take on things. I'd love to see how things pan out.

Author's Response: When I came up with this, I think I had been seeing a lot of stories on Ginny being Malfoy's best friend. I like twisting things up a bit, and Ron is kind of fun when you get him away from Hermione. :) More coming soon... this story is pretty much completed, so I will be posting regularly.
