The seventh year of the most famous class ever to attend Hogwarts brought many changes. Loyalties revealed, friendships tested, and everything was changing. Just after graduation, the war started. Voldemort was defeated, eventually, by the great Harry Potter just as everyone expected. The wizarding world celebrated and the Muggles remained oblivious and life went on.

But, ten years after the defeat of Voldemort at the he celebration thrown by the Ministry, there were still things that nobody knew. Things that, if someone were to find out, could destroy relationships. Things that no one would ever guess. Things that were as unexpected as a baby surviving the killing curse.

Ginny Weasley and Draco Malfoy were in love. Or at least they had been in love.

Their relationship changed his final year at Hogwarts. In the face of danger, people do strange things. Ginny and Draco are a testament to that. Two enemies that fell in love when their world was on the brink of war. They had kept it a secret for obvious reasons. They had so much going against them.

A fiery, wild girl and a cold, arrogant bastard. A Weasley and a Malfoy. A Slytherin and a Gryffindor. A Death Eater’s son and the Boy-Who-Lived’s ex-girlfriend.

They were enemies. They were rivals. They were lovers.

Of course, they kept up the charade for everyone else’s benefit. They would bicker and argue and then sneak away for a few minutes of stolen kisses in a deserted hallway. It was unpractical and dangerous and difficult, but they were willing to risk it for each other.

When graduation came, they knew it had to end. No matter how much they wanted to pretend that it could work, both knew it never would. Draco would be beaten by his father and would lose all ability to spy on the Dark Lord of the Order. Ginny would be ostracized by her friends and family, who would need her just as much as she would need them in the upcoming battles. No one would accept it and they weren’t fools enough to think that love could solve all their problems. So, with many tears and whispered words, it ended. The night before his graduation was the last night for the two. The not-so-happy ending of the bittersweet fairytale relationship of enemies turned lovers.

Ten years later, Draco entered the celebratory ball alone. He had yet to marry and doubted he ever would. Every woman he was ever with compared to the fiery, complicated girl he knew so many years ago.

She had gotten married, just as everyone had expected, a year after the war ended. He was invited to the wedding out of sheer courtesy. As far as everyone knew, he had never been close to the bride or the groom. Of course, Draco had attended, as it would seem odd not to. But, he left only a half an hour into the reception, pained too much by the site of Ginny with another man.

His only consolation was the fact that her eyes didn’t light up when she looked at her husband the way they lit up when she looked at him all those years ago. He had never seen Ginny look as positively alive as when it was just the two of them together, those times when they could pretend that everything was going to be okay. Draco knew in his heart that though she had married, she loved him, just as he loved her.

Draco mingled for almost an hour, champagne glass in hand, before he saw her. Unable to help himself, he began to walk over to where she was chatting with Neville and his wife. He had almost reached her when the other couple walked away, leaving only them. He smiled, in a manner that normally hid his true feelings, though he knew she would be able to see right through him. Nodding his head just slightly, to keep his eyes hidden as they brimmed with tears, he greeted her softly.

“Mrs. Potter."

The End.
