Draco in Iowa!!!
Okay, who else is picturing him holding the pitchfork in the Grant Wood painting? ;)

This really is a different Draco that we're used to seeing from you, and yet... that's a big part of what makes Draco's character so interesting in the first place. There are so many ways that he could have gone, which I don't think was true of Harry. I doubt he would have been content with not being able to afford radishes if he'd kept the memory of being a Malfoy. ;) But with a wiped memory, who knows? It'll certainly be interesting to see more of this one.

Author's Response: There will be a lot more insight into Draco and his character once we get into the story more. At this point, we're still not sure what is going on and what actually happened to them, but as we find out, the characters themselves will also find out a great deal about themselves, and hopefully I'll be able to show you that this is still the same/similar Draco I normally write... just in a different time and place and circumstance. ;) Thanks for the review!

Oo!!! Mystery and drama and hints and tensions!! Lots of secrets coming out...

"No! No, I can't, Drew. There is something you're keeping from me. There is something you don't want me to know! I know when you're lying. I knew four years ago when you had that affair. I knew ten years ago when we got married that you didn't really love me. I knew three months ago that we were having financial troubles with our farm and that the bank was getting ready to foreclose."

I think there are certain types of D/G fics that we've never had enough of, and this is the time when we would benefit a lot from starting to see them written... as we grow into a mature fandom.

One HUGE category is mystery, and that's what this is. Then, too, I'm getting more and more interested in fics that really mix the magical and non-magical worlds, and this fits that category. for sure. Looking forward to more. :)

The plot THICKENS!!! (rubs hands together, cackling.)

I love, LOVE a narrative with such a well-defined plot. (And if you've been in a F2F writers' group, you know how hard to find that really is... :P)
(and if anybody likes to read the reviews BEFORE reading the chapter, spoiler space, spoiler space, spoilery spoilery spoiler space...

What a great feeling we get for Draco's character here... his old self overlaid on the new.

Why did Draco get so much of his memory back NOW?? What triggered the return? And why hasn't it happened to Ginny? And what did he do to the twins? And why does it seem like they remembered more all along than he did?

I'm SURE that answers are coming soon... :) (said hopefully)

(sigh) Now I have to go and read this horrible thing somebody submitted in that F2F writers' group. Or... I guess it's not really *horrible* so much as it is riddled with basic mistakes that FIA writers would never make. I've been very spoiled by reading here for so long. ;)

Wow, what a fascinating combination of different times, motivation, characterizations... there's just so much going on, and yet I can see the shapes or the outlines of how it's all connected, even though nothing is clear yet. I especially liked this:

It was killing him, shredding him apart from the inside out, that she was not herself, and she would be far less helpless if she weren't fighting blindly.

I think it's because a key to Ginny's character is that we know that for a year, she was not herself (and I've always suspected that the experience changed her in ways that were never explored. Oh, forget about suspected... I've worked with trauma victims, and I KNOW.)

And then the juxtaposition of Ginny's relationships with both Harry and Draco in the past... there's so much here!!! Off to read the next chapter. :)

Wow, it's easy to see that this will NOT be one of those fics where all of the problems that Draco and Ginny have are rooted in a simple misunderstanding. And that's good. Because it never feels realistic. I have to agree with Ginny right now-- he needs to be smacked around a few times. :P No matter what he was doing, no matter where he went, was it REALLY impossible for him to give her even a tiny shred of news? Reassurance? Anything? But I understand why she did what she did at the end, too... But then again, I think that Draco should be kicked around for awhile just because of the infidelity issues in the past... But he did come back... .

Anyway. There clearly needs to be another chapter soon!! ;)

HA! The plot *really* thickens here.

The most interesting thing about D/G in general, IMHO, is that this relationship allows authors to explore all of the different aspects of their personalities in a way that clearly didn't happen in canon. It's as if these two characters have a chance to become real, to *feel* real, which is what needs to happen in literature (and sometimes doesn't.) Drew and Gwen aren't the same people that Draco and Ginny would have become without memory loss and substantial change in environment. Yet that more passive, more submissive side of Ginny was always there. I think that's why we saw the canon!Ginny who became Harry's gf and apparently learned to live with being ignored and left out of the meaningful parts of his life-- that portrayal wasn't completely unrealistic; it was just a less attractive part of Ginny's character coming out.

Here, we see more of the totality of who Ginny and Draco could have become and did become. But I especially liked this:

Her warm body snuggled beside him was finally taking over his senses. The sleep that he had evaded had caught up to him, and as he closed his eyes and allowed his two separate minds to think freely, he realized that every thought - whether it had originated from Drew's or Draco's way of thinking - began and ended with the woman who was sleeping beside him.

He had to get her back.

Whether Draco or Drew, he still loves her. :) But he has a lot of work to do with her before they get there, I think.

It feels so real, so authentic, that Ginny isn't automatically happy just because Draco has returned.

I love the way that Ginny demands to know why he left, the way that she won’t accept that kind of deception from him. She will not allow him to keep things from her anymore. She loves him, but she knows, now, that it’s not enough for him to be back. Her life and herself are about more than him.

Okay, there’s just ONE thing that’s a LITTLE confusing, and that’s the interlude piece where Draco, Fred, and George are going to find Luna. Is this a flashback to what happened before, during the weeks that Draco won’t tell Ginny about?

Oh, Ginny’s first child IS alive! And maybe the way that Draco won’t tell her why he left has something to do with this kid…

This fic is more and more interesting all the time. More soon! :)

So glad to see that you're updating this fic again!! And what a creepy chapter-- creepy in a great way, of course. ;) Narcissa is so often portrayed sympathetically that it's fascinating to see her like this. And will Draco's memories return?? It'll come out in the next chapter, I guess...

The Anatomy of a Suffragette by haniqua    (Reviews - 100)

Ginny Weasley wants nothing more than to focus on her Quidditch career and have a fun time doing it - but between the Ministry of Magic's plans to implement new marriage regulations, slanderous news articles by Rita Skeeter and a pair of irritating Slytherins, she just can't catch a break.
A feminist take on the Marriage Law trope, with DG for good measure.

Another chapter... ANOTHER CHAPTER YAY! (does the Happy Another Chapter In Less Than Twenty-One Days Dance. ;)

Favorite line:
"I’d blithely asked him if that was just an excuse to have women feel his bicep - and recommended he sack his personal trainer if that was case, due to the fact that mine were bigger – "

Most intriguing clue:
The weird incident with Ginny signing something for the child and Draco cryptically saying that the situation might not be as harmless as it looked.

Ginny is wonderfully impulsive as always. I do have a feeling that Draco might, just might, have a little something more up his sleeve than he's exactly letting on. Overall, a fun chapter that provided more opportunities for D/G interaction, and I look forward to seeing where this goes next!

Author's Response: Thanks Anise, hahaha. I think you might be onto something with Draco... but I won't give too much away, just yet. You can decide whether he's up to no good, or if he's really got Ginny's best interests at heart. ;)

YES and YAY!! Another chapter! :) (It hasn't been two years. It isn't possible.... no way... I just don't believe it... well, anyway. ;)

I just love this Ginny. Feisty, independent, doggedly determined, dogmatic, and... I don't know... fond of dogma. :) She gets her teeth into something and just doesn't let go, but her weakness is that she keeps marching all the way over the edge unless she's helped to stop. She's so believable. I don't really know why she still has so much animosity towards Draco after several years either (referring to a comment that a previous reviewer made), but there are so many reasons that would make sense... it's just that they're not really explained here... so I think that's believable too. And this chappie earned the NC-17 rating! ;)

There's just so much to this story; it gets me engaged with the idea of reading and writing D/G all over again, and that's a priceless gift. So. It isn't going to be 21 months until the next update... RIGHT??? (glares sternly.) MORE. Soon. :)

Author's Response: I like this Ginny too - I enjoy writing how proud she is, even though she's a struggle to write sometimes because she's trapped in a corner being stubborn and I have to try to work out how another character will snap her out of it, haha. Needless to say, I'm sure Draco will get very good at it, soon enough. ;)

Anyway - if my fic is engaging enough to compel other authors to write more fanfic, I think that's the best compliment I've ever gotten!

Thanks for reviewing! And I will definitely attempt to beat my 21 month bench mark... I'll aim for 20 months, this time. XD

This fic continues to be a pleasure to read. :)

Your Ginny is so distinctive, with so many unique aspects to her personality-- we know a lot about who she is, and we know that she's not generic. We're always interested in learning the next thing about this Ginny. She's passionate about her convictions, very stubborn, never knows quite when to quit or to stop digging herself in deeper and deeper...

Good Examples:
I was pretty sure I’d used that parchment as emergency toilet paper already – ignoring the fact I wasn’t confident that I knew how to safely turn the oven on.

Hermione picked up her copy of the Prophet and turned a few pages, before reading aloud: “‘Harpies’ star chaser threatens opposing team: ‘Feminists will take over the world.’”
“That’s a misquote!”

HA.
Draco is also such a complex character here... and his motives are clearly mixed, but we know that he's not going to turn out to be neither fluffy nor Teh Embodiment of Evil.

I really look forward to seeing where this one goes! :)

Author's Response: Thank you! I confess I had a little too much fun with that toilet paper line, and kind of sat there congratulating myself on how clever I was after I wrote it (read: not that clever).

Anyway, more Draco to come! And he is very complex (at least, was intentionally written so), just as people generally tend to be. Hopefully Ginny becomes interested in drilling through those layers soon.

Ha! I KNEW I'd finally get to review this!! :)

Anyway. This is just such a great fic in so many ways. The characters are believable *as* the ones we know so well, but they're also unique, which is a very difficult one to pull off. Ginny is a wonderful, impulsive little fireball, but she's also very capable of reining herself in. I really like the way you're kind of gradually delineating Draco's character. He's not a villain; he's not an embodiment of any painfully obvious quality (which can be a real pitfall when writing him.) I also like Theodore Nott, and I can tell you that it's hard for me to appreciate (or write) him as a positive character.

This is just so much fun. So much to look forward to. I know what you mean about how difficult a forced-marriage fic is to really write well. (I've never tried one, and that might be why...) More soon, I hope!

(And I haven't FORGOTTEN about Chaos Theory... said meaningfully... ;)

Author's Response: *laughs* Hooray, I'm happy you found time in your busy schedule. :) Thanks so much - I'm okay with letting Ginny act a little crazy in this, but I'm trying very hard to keep Draco well-tempered (you know, like chocolate) and not overtly-anything. He does need a touch of characterisation, though, and I've just written a scene for chapter three prominently featuring him that I like very much. Anyway, chapter three is on it's way... Kind of. I had a small issue with some writer's block, but betaing for some other authors actually helped me work out what was wrong with the scene (your FE was good for something!) sooo if I keep writing the way I'm going I should have an update in, say... five months or so. ;) Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about it either. *sighs* Thanks for reviewing!

HA!LOVE... LOVE... LOVE this fic. THESE are the kinds of fics we need in the fandom, especially right now. If we are going to evolve and change and grow and become a truly mature and eternally lasting fandom (Sherlock Holmes in all his incarnations comes to mind as an example, from original ACD canon to the early 20th century parodies to whatever that one graphic novel was to the steampunk version to BBC to Elementary... well, you see what I mean), then this is what we need. Fics that are ABOUT SOMETHING, and only Draco and Ginny can tell the tale. I hope for more soon! :)

Author's Response: *laughs* Thank you! That means a lot, it's so awesome that you think the premise is that good lol. Now to live up to that if I continue it...

Thank you for reviewing, hopefully I can update it soon. ;)

Okay, you are officially the New Queen of Angst. (offers a selection of crowns. I like the one with tanzanites...)

But yes, this is a realistic way that the D/G relationship could end, given the large number of negative ways that both of their characters could go. I do think that Draco had the same problem she did; he couldn't bring himself to kill her... until he could. Kind of hard to get sympathetic! Draco out of that one. Sometimes, your Dracos just go too far into darkness to be redeemed, but I think the most important thing is to always make sure they at least retain that capacity. He really might have chosen to let her live, to go away with her... but he didn't. She might have chosen to kill him before this point... but she didn't. Maybe it wasn't much more than chance that set each of them on their separate paths.

Anyway, I might have to read some sickeningly fluffy fluff after this! ;)

Author's Response: Coming from a fellow Queen of Angst, I take that as a high compliment! :) I don't know why, but I think that this is my favorite thing I have ever written. Because it is just so different from why I normally write. And in a lot of ways, neither of these characters are redeemable. They were both guilty. Draco was just slightly guiltier. Although Ginny was very stupid here, and that adds to her guiltyness. It is all one great big ball of guilt and deception. Neither was honest with the other, and it is hard to sympathize with either, and I meant it that way. :P I need to write something fluffy now, hehe. I have been angsting constantly.

ERGH!!!! Angstangstangstangstangst!!!

(angst overload)

And it's such GOOD angst. You know, there's always been so much angst out there when it comes to D/G, but it's not so easy to find this genre really well done. I think that as readers, we may tend to forgive it when it's not really that good. But then something like this comes along.

There really are very solid reasons why they cannot be together at this point in their lives, or at any point that either of them can foresee. They are too far apart from each other, and their trajectories crossed on this one night, and they're both going to keep speeding in other directions. I wonder if her first was Harry. If so, she's already made one irrevocable decision.

But... that being said... I don't think that the ending doesn't leave any hope AT ALL. I could see it being followed up in an epilogue-compliant fic. Much, much later, when they both understand that there's a life beyond the destinies that were planned for them, that life goes on in ways they never could have understood when they were sixteen and seventeen years old, I think that they might be able to find each other again.

This is the kind of fic that (IMHO) shows that there's something iconic about D/G, something that lasts, and that its survival doesn't depend on the teenage fangirls. It reminds me of why I came back to this fandom when I never thought I would.

On to those other two fics! :)

Author's Response: Thanks for your review! I loved writing this story for so many reasons, and I'm so glad those came through for you. I wanted there to be a connection between Draco and Ginny, but at the same time I wanted it to be obvious that they just couldn't be together. And of course there is still hope for them, but not right now. I would love to write a follow-up to this story that takes place ten or twenty years post-epilogue, just Draco and Ginny seeing each other again and seeing how much has changed, how differently they ended up. The world that this is written in, though, is absolutely canon-compliant, though, because that is just how I meant it to be and any continuation would need to remain that way. :) As always, I love your reviews <3.

The poor frogs. Draco's obtuseness. The characterizations of Ginny's brothers. Ginny feeling sorry for Saskia... you know, I always feel sorry for Draco's discarded gf's... I don't know how it's going to end yet, obviously, but can I hope for hints of a Charlie/Saskia pairing? ;) Anyway... it's great, and I'm looking forward to more! :)

Looks like a great beginning, Haz! I especially like Draco's degree of obliviousness. Yes, I could believe that he really *doesn't* get it when it comes to Ginny-- she's a lot more complex than his usual gf's. (I'm not even exactly sure that you could call them that... ;) Really looking forward to seeing where you go with this.

Author's Response: Well, he's a boy, and we all know boys are dumb. He obviously doesn't "get" women as well as he thinks he does; but then again, Ginny is a special case. ;)

Yay! Another chapter! Oh, this fic is so good... so much going on... I just knew that she wouldn't be able to resist Draco, and of course, she didn't. ;) Great smut scene, but there's something about the way you write them together, their connection, the way that I think they're both feeling towards understanding what it means... Ginny is probably further along the path of really admitting that she wants to know than Draco is, though...

Anyway, it really reminds me of why I love this pairing. And the letters from her family are great! More soon!!

Author's Response: Hey Anise, thank you for the review!

Well, can anyone resist him, reaaally? ;) Hehe, I'm so glad you liked the smut - never have I felt so much like an awkward newb as when I was writing it, so it's a huge compliment that you (in particular, Crystal Palace queen) think it's good. :D

You'd be right in thinking that, although I'm not sure if Ginny knows what it is, exactly. With Draco though - I mean, if I lost your memories, but you know your family committed war crimes, I don't think I'd want to know very much either, haha.

Anyhoo, thank you again! I'm sorry it took a year, lol. But I hope you like what comes next!

A new chapter, YAY.

The mystery is deepening, for sure. This chapter brings up so many new things... what exactly does Charlie know, especially about her past relationship with Draco? Why did Draco really burn that picture? Why did Ginny immediately think it was because of some awful motive? It seems like she would have been in more trouble if he *hadn't* burned it. Or are her sudden feelings really coming from something that happened between them in the past? And as always, I love your world-building; there's so much that's original in it!

Well... looking forward to the next chapter. I can't dare to hope that this will be 38497023.pi chapters long, because I think you could draw this out for a quite a while... but hopefully, there will be more soon. :)
