Not Quite an Affair by Rosalie    (Reviews - 522)

“You mustn’t tell them, Rose! Harry knows but Lily and the boys… you can’t breathe a word…”

When Rose Weasley went to her favorite aunt for advice on how to handle loving someone her family disapproved of, she never dreamed the older woman would have been able to relate so well. In the comfortable safety of her kitchen, Ginevra Potter told her niece everything and swore her to secrecy. But months later, when Ginevra notices that her daughter, Lily, is spending time with Scorpius Malfoy, Ginny realizes too late that the truth can never really be locked away. Children question their parents and their own identities and everyone must confront the past.

Great update! Wow, Scorpius is sure nicer than Draco was at school! Now I can't wait for the next update! please write more soon! xoxo

Author's Response: Thanks you! I think being raised by Draco (who was only a school bully) as opposed to being raised by Lucius (a murderer) would affect your personality just a bit differently ;) Kind of how Lily is a bit more bratty than Ginny ever was (at least in my opinion). Different parents, different results...

Eekk! You've got me so excited with that small flicker of Draco! I can't wait to read the next chapter. Please use your superpowers and update ASAP! ^^

PS: I hope you keep the relationship b/w Scoripius and Lily just platonic so Draco/Ginny can be together. S + Rose would be nice :)

Author's Response: I'll update as fast as I can. ;)

Oh! It's short, but I like it =) honestly, i wish ginny had said yes. And as much as I am loathe to admit it, I do think harry is too good to her... I mean, knowing she loves someone else too (while she is married to him)... well, unless he's having an affair, then he wouldn't mind, now would he? ^^
Anyways update soon! Can't wait to see what happens at the party ^_^ xoxo

Author's Response: She certainly does think that she doesn't deserve Harry. Ginny actually feels very guilty for still caring for Draco but Harry understands her situation and is simply trying to love her unconditionally, which as Ginny said to Rose in the beginning, was why she went back to him, because Harry is Harry. I like to think it's how he would've handled the situation (kinda how he wasn't happy that Cho cared for Cedric but he understood it). Thanks so much for your review, hopefully the Party in the next chapter won't disappoint ;)

Author's Response: Haha, your very welcome. There will be more sightings in the future ;)

Hmm.. this chapter was so sad =( well, the ending. Im loving Lilly and her devlish ways! And, I can see how now that Scorpius is mad at Lil, he'll go for Rose (thanks for that! ^^")

I have to admit though, I'm slightly put off by Ginny's character because she seems like a sobbing mess all the time! I really want to know what happened with her and Draco to reduce her to this, when once she was a fiery spirit like Lily (in the books). I liked that Harry has his own jealousies in this chapter, because before he just looked like a Saint. I can understand how painful it must be for him having his wife love another, but him being himself, he takes the role of the hero once again. So, good job with that!

As always, I can't wait for the next chapter! I hope Ginny develops some strength and more of her history with Draco comes to light. xoxo

Author's Response: Wow, that was really insightful about Ginny's personality. I'm going to do a mental check real quick... Ha! (lol, I'm only able to do this because I've already written the whole thing, it's just updated as its edited) I can promise several scenes where Ginny has her normal fiery temperment, and quite a few more tearful ones. Hopefully they balance out, but I'd not really thought about the high level of angst in this for a while (probably cuz my mind is about ten chapters ahead). Thanks for your review and I'll let it keep stewing in my mind.

OMG! I can't believe he did that! I wonder what he and Rose talked about? Was she trying to turn him against Lilly? She really is like Hermione, isn't she? And, jealous like ron, of course :P

Anyways, I hope Scorpius saves Lily and the two mend their friendship. BUT, most of all, I hope Draco and Ginny get more interaction and get back together again

Author's Response: I completely agree with your 'most of all' being that Draco and Ginny get to see each other again. And although it is taking a bit of time, it is coming :) However, they are two seperately married and commited people and the only time they've seen each other in twenty-six years was at the dinner party and only arranged because of their children now being friends. They will see each other several more times as Lily and Scorpius' lives get more and more tangled up in their own problems and their parents' past. It'll just be a couple chapters thrown in before they can really get anywhere. But it is coming and thank you so very much for your review! And I agree, Rose is the perfect mix of Ron and Hermione and its really starting to show...

Aww this is cute! I see a scorpis-lily romance budding, though - for the sake of my DG - I hope it's short lived. Anyways, (and I know I say this in almost every review, but) not enough Draco-Ginny! It was really sweet that he remembers her favourite flowers

Author's Response: There will be more on the flowers, I assure you! It wasn't intended but I had a random plot bunny an hour ago and the next chapter is very DG memory centric, not to worry.

Aww some DG memory-love ^_^ I'm glad Ginny is starting to realize that Draco would've been the better choice for her, and that she should've picked him over Harry! Once the edge of doubt start to creep in, dissolution of a relationship is easy to come by.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING SCORPIUS LIKE ROSE! I hope they have this really intense relationship like DG would have. Lily can find herself someone nice, someone who isn't going to be her step-brother. Update soon! xoxo

Author's Response: Your welcome for the DGness ;) Just a reminder though, Scorpius likes Lily AND Rose and is getting increasingly frustrated as well...

Lol yes yes, I know he likes them both, but being the DG fan-girl that I am, I'm just going to ignore the lily part until it becomes absolutely necessary :P Can we please see some more Rose in the next chapter?

Author's Response: Sure. And Lily. And Scorpius. ;)

*sigh* I have to say I hate this chapter. Don't get me wrong, it was very well written and there are no grammatical mistakes I can point out, but... the storyline here, I just hate it. It's probably because I've been a Scorpius-Rose shipper for the entirety of this story, so I'm not exactly a fan of him and Lily. Secondly, I LOVE DG, so if you bring their children together, the chances of them being together by the end of this story dwindle. Thirdly, I really do think that Scorpius and Rose have this intensity of feelings between them (not unlike DG) that him and Lily will never have (like Harry and Ginny dont have that great deep connection, no matter how nice their relationship is). I had to force myself to read this chapter, but I know (as you've assured me in the past), I'll have my DG fix soon, so I'm just going to wait for that one. Please update soon! I really can't wait to read the next chapter! Rose-Scorpius confrontation coming

Author's Response: Aw well I'm sorry that you didn't like it. I know it's hard if you've been routing for Rose and Scorp from the beginning. Honestly (and you're of course welcome to your own opinions) but I always was writing this with the intention of showing how both Lily and Rose had Ginny's choices before them in a sense. Whether to risk everything for Scorpius or not, just as Ginny had to with Draco. Rose, being cautious and in a tight spot because of her parents, can't force herself to upset them, even if she's being dishonest about what she really wants. Lily is Gryffindor for a reason, and very like her mum. She's been bold as brass since the beginning and couldn't help but attract Scorpius' friendship and respect. He's of course tired and very hurt after months or longer of being dragged around behind an indecisive Rose and it's only natural that some part of him would jump for the reciprocation Rose hadn't been giving him. He and Lily's friendship might seem recent as it only began in the last semester, but it has been honest and bold. Rose is not out of the picture, and she'll still get some form of her own happy ending, but you'll have to wait and see ;) As for Draco and Ginny, they'll be forced to deal with each other again in the next chapter, by their kids of course.

Omg this chapter was so sad =(

Author's Response: Sorry ;) It certainly has angst.

Reviewer: DGgirl Signed

Ok, now that I'm more calm, I can give you a better review ^^" I sort of agree with Jem90. This chapter has sort of set in stone the loyalties of Scorpius and Lily, and honestly, it's made me hate them. I mean, my god, this girl stands there after snogging her best-friend's crush and accuses her ruining her own life? Not that Rose is completely innocent - she should've manned up and owned up to her feelings, but I can understand her predicament. Going against everything your parents believe in is very hard, especially for a girl her age, who's always expected to be so perfect. And, Scorpius, being brought up as the gentlemanly son of Astoria - who seems so naive and sweet - seems so OOC and so rude to shove a girl, it made me seethe. Poor Draco and Ginny - they're stuck in their own predicament. I think what Rose said about Lily and Ginny hit it right on the head. Ginny doesn't know what she wants, and because of her indecisiveness she's ruined seven lives forever, irrevocably. I don't know if Draco fought hard for her or not, so I'll hold my comment on him.

This is all a big mess really, and the people I really truly feel sorry for are Harry, Astoria, and Rose because they've been burdened with secrets and lies that are not their own. Harry - like Jem90 said - has become the ultimate pushover, and Astoria is the benign, oblivious wife, who knows something is wrong, but chooses to live in her own world. And, then there's Rose, whose entire world (what seems like at her age) has been turned upside down because of her best friend, who seems to be acting like a selfish little brat right now. Having read this chapter, I agree with you on one thing now though: Scorpius and Lily deserve each other. I hope Rose finds someone more understanding, and not quite as volatile who will treat her with the respect and loyalty that the Scorpius in this story has never given her. I would even go as far as to question his feelings for her in the first place because how can he basically dump her overnight for Lily after claiming that he never thought he could like someone other than her? It just doesn't make sense to me. I don't think his loyalties ever lied with Rose, and he would be hypocrite if he tried to make himself out to be a victim of Rose's insecurities. Anyways, I'll write more as I can think of it, but until then, happy writing!

Author's Response: Wow, quite the insight in that review. Glad you could breathe enough to write it out. ;) There are areas I'd disagree with you on, but it's entirely your right to your own take on the chapter. I do completely agree that everyone, and I do mean every last character, has more often than not, created their own problems. Ginny and Draco's past obviously, and then the mess between Rose, Scorpius, and Lily. I don't mean to label teenagers, but I do think that kids that age often overreact to things and make more of a mess than they were originally dealing with. School fights happen, especially between angry, adolescents caught in messy situations. I sort of think that everyone is a victim to their own degree. Rose obviously more so than others for how she was betrayed and then attacked when she finally vented herself and confronted Lily. I don't think that Scorpius would call himself a 'victim' of Rose's insecurities, but he certainly was yanked around by her indecisiveness. His friendship with Lily is real, months have passed since he first met her after all and he does care about her. I think that when he originally chose Lily over Rose and gave having Rose up, that he was honestly just trying to deal with what had happened and move on. He knew that he and Rose were going nowhere fast and that he had a shot with Lily. His and Lily hiding their relationship, which essentially was a betrayal of Rose, led to a huge blow-up between the three of them and got out of control as everyone grew increasingly angrier. Lily was torn between her cousin Rose and Scorpius, who she truly did like. She chose Scorpius. Maybe it was a mistake, maybe how she handled it was. Regardless, its what she chose and now she's dealing with the consequences, namely how badly she hurt Rose. Often, when caught up as the guilty party, one becomes recklessly defensive, which is exactly what Lily did when she lashed out at Rose. She wants to blame Rose for putting her in this situation though she does know that it isn't Rose's fault. She wants it to be. She knows it's not. As for Harry, I wouldn't necessarily call him a pushover. He's the martyr, always has been in the series. He deals with the pain, hurt, and raw deals. He loves Ginny and he's trying to be understanding as possible. Remember that he was there when Ginny and Draco were together. He was the only one who saw and knew what was going on and he knows exactly how hard it was for Ginny to choose between them. He had plenty of his own insecurities despite that, but Harry has never been the type to turn on family, certainly not his own wife. It would break up his children and everything he's spent the last 26 years building up. His love for his wife is unconditional and he's trying to ride out the rought time their all having. Astoria honestly does not know that anything is wrong. It may seem odd, but she really is that oblivious, plenty of people are. She really is the only one who is entirely unaware and clueless. I'm not trying to state that some characters are bad and others good, just trying to shed some light on why it is such a mess. As fir Draco, I know you've held your comment on him and that's totally fine. I'm not sure what I would say at this point about him as he really has been much less in the limelight. He is central from here on out as he and Ginny must find closure to piece their families back together after the incidenct in the hospital wing. More of his thoughts on everything later, not the immediate next chapter, but certainly soon. I hope the way I try to unravel everything that got tangled up can make senese and really work. I think it does and I hope you will too once it gets to that point. Thanks for your review and I don't mean my response as a rebuttal or anything, just more of what I was thinking while writing. Thanks again and hope you like the rest! ;)

Wow! I'm loving Harry in this chapter, I have to say, and that's very unusual for me. The thing he said about being saint-like - here here! I like how we see behind the facade of a perfectly happy marriage in this chapter, and reveal bit of what they're both feeling. Honestly, I don't feel sorry for Ginny at all. I don't know if that's how you wrote it, but she's a person who doesn't know what she wants, and has tried to sit on the fence for far too long. I hope somewhere along the line we get a full out screaming spat between her and Harry where they both say exactly what they mean, and how they feel. I cannot WAIT for the DG meeting next chapter! I know she said she's going for closure, but the way you've written her this chapter - it could go either way. I can see how Harry & Ginny's relationship has reached their breaking point, as he said, and from here there are two ways it can go:
1) They can either break up, and go their seperate ways; or
2) Ginny can completely give up on Draco, forget all about him, Harry can let go of all his insecurities and jealousies, and they can all just move on...
The first one seems favourable to me, always the DG fan :P It will also be easier because I can't imagine how you can just stop loving someone you've loved for 26 years, and move on completely... it's a long time. So, thank you for this chapter! It was really great because even though we saw a little bit of Scorpius-Lily (gag), it centred on our favourite herione and her matyr husband, fighting about the love of her life aka the hottest bad boy of hogwarts! LOL it all sounds so fangirl-ish, but i love it! Update soon! xoxo

Author's Response: Haha, I love how you call him a martyr and Draco the hottest bad boy of hogwarts... Sooooo true. So true. As for which way it will go... you'll have to see, it won't be obvious right away either. But thank you and I'm glad you liked it so much!

See? See! She feels like she's home when she's with Draco. She sent him that invitation because she needed him to validate a decision she made because she wasn't sure it was the right decision - which it wasn't! I hope there's some present-day DG intimacy, maybe even a kiss? *sighs* Stupid Ginny, if she'd just chosen the right guy, and had a real spine, and gotten proper closure, this wouldn't have happened. Update soon!

Author's Response: I'll update as soon as I can. I'm writing just about everything you're demanding right now, which made me grin reading this. Lol, you don't need to tell me twice about everything you're saying but it certainly made me laugh. I promise I'll update much sooner than last time. Thanks for your review!

The owl's for Scorpius right? I wonder what Draco is going to say to him. As for Rose, I feel sorry for her, but now she can move on from that sod (Scorpis) and find some other guy who'll treat her right. I think this chapter was a bit melancholy and bittersweet. Please post more DG-ness soon!

Author's Response: Yes, the owl is from Amber, Draco's secretary, to Scorpius about what she saw earlier that morning. Remember that everything that happened since chapter fourteen where Ginny goes to see Draco, everything since then is all happening on the same day... and it will continue that way until chapter twenty I think. ;) It's a ton, yes, but there is quite a bit of switching between telling each generation's side of it. Draco and Ginny for example will be coming up after two more chapters and I promise you will finally know, gasp! Ginny's real secret... dun dun dun... Thanks for your review and your concern for Rose moving on is duly noted... we shall see, we shall see...

Omg! Now I understand what Ginny meant when she said what Harry had done to her... how could he? Though I do recognize that she should've picked between them, he should've never forced her to pick while holding Draco's father's trial over her head - that's too much for her to carry. Thankfully, you've made me dislike Harry again (I thought I was losing it :P), lol.

I really can't wait to see where this goes, and who Ginny ends up with in the end. Update soon!

Author's Response: Oh good, lol. Now its all just a big jumbled mess, isn't it. Nobody ever did the right thing all the time and though no one is 'evil' per se, they all have their own shadowy secrets. Thanks so much for your review and I'll update when I get the chance!

Awww I'm loving Rose and Travis! =) I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of Scorpius and Lily - I think they're like Dan and Serena - fine for a little while, but they're both just too hard-headed, and this is just too much too early in their lives. Relationships like theirs generally don't survive high school.

Anyways, can't wait to see Draco next chapter! OMG - will we find Ginny with Draco and it'll be a big surprise? PLEASE MAKE IT THAT WAY! :D

Glad you're writing again :) Update soon! xoxo

Author's Response: Haha, you're wanting a surprise really did make me laugh. I hope you'll be surprised by a few things in the next few chapters. Are promises of cliffhangers a surprise? I'm glad you like the story and the new Rose/Travis ship.

Here’s the thing about love; no one ever tells you the truth. They don’t want to ruin whatever childhood fantasies you’re going to concoct up in that ‘pretty little head of yours.’ No, no, see, they’re all much more sadistic then that. They would rather you find out later that all the dreaming you did was for nothing. Then that way, you can be just like them, and suffer.
