Love this chapter! I'm sorry this is going to be a crap review, but I'm falling asleep as I type this. I shall say this: Luna is precious. I love how you gave her a role in this.

Author's Response: Thanks, Kim! I love Luna's small role in this. n_n

Awwwwwwwww. This chapter is adorble - especially the end. Though what a meanie Ginny is changing the subject like that after Draco has asked her out.

I know I've said it a lot, but I really, really love this story. It is pure brilliance!

It was like his body didn't know what it meant to be a Malfoy, like it had absolutely no pride, no standards.

I love this! it's such a Draco thing to think.

This was a brilliant chapter, as usual. Obviously, what Draco does is really stupid, but he's stuck in everlasting Tuesdays and I know he isn't going to die. And if I was Ginny, I would make sure I got him back for pulling that trick.

Author's Response: Thanks, Kim! Draco should be beat over the head for thinking this would work. Or for thinking it was a good idea.

Awww, I really love this chapter. It would be easy to think this story is just fluffy, but you have sophisticatedly weaved in darker themes and deeper emotions, and I appreciate that. The suicide, for example, wasn't just glossed over. You made him realise how utterly stupid his behaviour had been and what effect it had on Ginny. The kiss, however, was all fluff. I love that he says "hold on", kisses her, and then says she is free to go. I also love that Ginny just barges in there, hexes flying, and then pounces on him. I think she's been wanting to do that. *snickers*

Loved this chapter! Love this story. I'll be sad when it ends.

Author's Response: Thanks, Kim! :D I really think I'm going to have to do a drabble series from this story, because I want to know what it was like for Ginny after Draco jumped. There are a ton of little moments that I could write about in drabbles, and I think they would be interesting enough. So hopefully that's something to look forward to! Thanks for the review! n_n

Can I just say 'Awwwwww'. This is such an adorable story, and while you still get a hint of that deseperation for the Tuesdays to end, you know that everything is going to be alright. Loved this chapter!

Haha, this story is so adorable! I love the ending. I love Draco's very teenagy "talking wasn't what I had in mind", and Ginny's embarassment and then later taking charge attitude. So cute! Also love how Ron does the whole 'I KNOW!" though he doesn't know why. This story is hilarious and so, so wonderfully written. Loved it!

Author's Response: Thank you so much, Kim. n_n I admit, your enthusiasm for the story has made me much more excited about it. I wasn't sure how I felt after I wrote it (probably because I was writing it for Lia and didn't want to disappoint), but I do love it now. And I'm glad you have enjoyed it both times through. Thank you so much for all of your wonderful reviews! n_n

Ooo, this just keeps getting better and better. I'm really enjoying the way you're writing Draco; he seems so human and well, a teenager. Great job!

So I'm literally exhausted right now, but I just wanted to say this was really beautiful -- in a very tragic way, of course. You have such a clean, crisp style, and that really works for this story, as well as projecting Draco's emotions in a non-emo way. Fantastic chapter!

Interesting chapter. Ginny is intriguing, and I guess I can see why Draco is interested in her. But she is messed up, oh yes she is.

Malfoy In a Glass, Darkly by Anise    (Reviews - 129)

Many years ago, Draco Malfoy made a choice that led him very far away from Ginny Weasley, and the life that they might have shared. But not only is it hopeless to fight fate, its paths have a strange way of turning when you least expect them to, as a very unexpected person later learns...

Malfoy In a Glass Cover
Chapter FOURTEEN Quote of the Day:

“It can’t be worse than going to Romania. James is getting worse by the day. Lily doesn’t care about anything but her broom. And Mum and Dad—“ Albus breaks off.

Ginny. Scorpius can feel his face stiffen, and he has to conjure a coughing fit to cover it. Incredible how simply hearing of her, not even hearing her name, is enough to cause that stab of feeling in him. Just when he thinks that he’s over that sort of thing entirely—

“The point is, I’m so glad I can go with you,” sighs Albus.

Maybe I ought to wish that you couldn’t, thinks Scorpius. For your own good.

I should have copied my review before pressing submit. I just lost it. *sighs*

Anyway, typing this out again. I really liked this chapter. There's so much going on here that I can't even begin to piece it all together, but I do have a feeling that the reason Scorpius is having such a deep connection with Ginny and seeing visions of her is because his seer abilities are connected to his father somehow. Scorpius is fascinated by Ginny because Draco is also fascinated by her; he sees her because Draco is searching for her -- or something to that effect. Either way, I can see that things are going to become very difficult for Scorpius. There are a lot of unsettling 'visions' in here that suggest whatever is to come will be no picnic.

The conversation between Draco and Scorpius was frankly painful. Not that you wrote it bad, but I find two people -- espcially family -- who have no relationship and then try to have a normal, 'close' conversation quite sad and difficult to read. There's so much pain there. So much lack of understanding and emptiness. Draco has abandoned his son for a long time, and I really do hope they will be able to bridge that gap between them.

Author's Response: I HATE IT when that happens!!!! Evil computers eating reviews!!! Anyway. Thanks! :) Yes, you have lots of good guesses here. And the father/son scene really is painful. In their own way, each is really trying. But Scorpius never learned how to communicate with Draco, and Draco cut off his own emotions too thoroughly when he left Ginny to really know how to do it. But there's so much more to come.. .

Poor Scorpius. That infatuation of his is certainly not going to go anywhere. I really feel for him in this chapter. How horrible for him to actually doubt whether Astoria is his real mother.

Alec has become my new favourite. I do wonder why he is taking such an interest in Scorpius, though.

Oh, yes. Did you ever send those chapters of Nineteen Years Later? I'm in no rush, but I don't want to find that they've got lost amongst my inbox.

Author's Response: Scorpius is going through a lot, isn't he? ;) And Mycroft is a jerk. (In this fic, so was/is Theodore Nott.) I really just like Blaise Zabini, and I like to think that he would have passed those attributes on to his kid. Alec would love to be Scorpius's friend (and yes, more too, but he knows there's no chance of that happening), but interhouse friendships between Slytherins and anybody else are just as next-to-impossible as they ever were. I did send the as-cleaned-up-as-possible chaps of NYL! Did they maybe go to spam? I might not have a good email address... try sending me something?

I'm afraid I had to skim-read a few parts of this chapter, but no matter. This story is much too good to pass up.

I'm fascinated to see how the Scorpius/Ginny/Draco triangle is actually going to work out. And I find it curious that Scorpius also had a Marie (I'm assuming Draco was with the same woman in this story). I don't know how this story is going to work out in a happy way, and perhaps you're not intending that at all. 'Suppose I'll just have to read on and see.

Author's Response: Well, yes... this WAS the chapter that was responsible for the rating being upped, that's true. ;) I guess I really should've known that I wouldn't be able to keep a fic below Extremely Naughty. Anyway. Yes, Scorpius had a Marie, and the fact that he does is one of the keys to who Marie actually was/is-- but I don't know if it will be possible to figure any of that out from this fic or not. I'm still toying with that idea. Suggestions will be taken on the subject. :) And as to whether this fic will have a happy ending or not... well, we'll find out about that soon enough!

Ahh, I've been meaning to read this story ever since I saw it had been updated, but darn work kept getting in the way.

I found the conversation with Prudence very fascinating. It seems to me like the Crystal Palace somehow 'construct' their girls with magic to resemble what the person undergoing his initiation most desires, whether that is consciously realised or not. In Draco and Scorpius's case, that was Ginny, yet Scorpius chose someone else because he knew, instinctively, it would mean nothing because Marie is not Ginny. I wonder what it meant for Draco to choose Marie and feel like he is being with Ginny, and whether that somehow fuelled his obsession even more.

I really feel like I'm getting to know Scorpius's character a bit more in this chapter. I like the fact he is a bit of a romantic (despite his vehement denial of this fact), and that he is not completely cocky, but is embarassed quite easily. It's much more human, and does set him apart from Draco, who we know had a bit more control.

What I most love, however, is how compassionate Scorpius actually is. I can't imagine him ever behaving to Ginny (or any girl) as Draco did, but then Draco experienced a very different life. Still, Scorpius's reaction to everything is very different to his father's, despite people saying how familiar they are.

I'm really pleased Ginny did walk away from Draco in that 'flashback'. Even if she did go to Harry, Draco really wasn't respecting her as he should. Of course, now sheis stuck with Harry, and he is still as git-like as ever, I see.

Author's Response: Thanks! :) Yes, we will see Prudence again (in DDD), so I couldn't resist giving her a cameo appearance here. I think that the 16-year-old Draco, too, had to know deep down that Marie was nothing more than an illusory version of Ginny; the difference between him and his son is that Draco had a much greater capacity for self-deception, and he just could not resist that illusion. I do love Scorpius's compassion. :) He has a very gentle heart. But then, as you point out, he's never had to deal with the things that Draco did, either.

I think that the low point of the whole scene may have been when Draco reminded her that she'd already given herself to him and wasn't innocent anymore, so since she couldn't live up to the standards of her world, she might as well become the official Malfoy mistress now. It took so much for her to walk away from him-- but I don't think she made the best choice by going to Harry, either.

I actually found this chapter really disturbing, and it was because of the way the girls were using Scorpius. That kind of treatment is bound to have some serious impact on him, and that last 'orgy' scene honestly disgusted me at how completely selfish and forceful their behaviour was towards him. It was pretty much a gang rape when you think about it. He was too drunk to do otherwise.

I'm very curious to learn more about Scorpius's healing abilities, as well as what Lily has to do with the Draco/Ginny/Harry thing.

Author's Response: Ack. I never thought of the events of this chapter in that light (they've been brewing since the beginning, of course), but now that you put it that way, I can really see your point. To be fair, I don't think that any of the Hogwarts girls ever meant to do anything but have fun with Scorpius, and hurting him was the furthest thing from their minds. And none of his real friends, like Nora, had anything to do with the Gryffindor party incident (which I think also helps to subtly point out just how selfish Gryffindors can be.) What Scorpius doesn't really realize is that he's only slept with the self-centered, immature girls at Hogwarts, the ones who see him as a trophy, a notch on their belts, a prize, all because he's such a rarity-- a boy who's had the fabled pureblood initiation. I think that later in their lives, the girls will look back on these incidents and feel a little ashamed of themselves.

Anyway, we will learn more about Scorpius-as-healer and Lily's role later. Much more soon!

I loved reading this chapter, even though I was getting distracted every few minutes. There's something very vulnerable about Scorpius, and it's really interesting to read. He's not like Draco, even though they have similar experiences, and the more you read about this, the more you see that.

I wonder why Draco is really coming home.

Author's Response: Yes, Scorpius is very vulnerable, but he's not in as much denial about his vunerabiity as Draco is. :P But you're right-- he's also very different from his father. Now, as for the issue of Draco coming home... there's more to find out about that, let's just say. And we'll learn it in the very next chapter!

Aww, poor Scorpius. I really do feel for him.

Draco can be so thick sometimes. How can he expect Ginny to divorce Harry when he won't divorce Astoria? Of course she's going to say no.

Author's Response: I feel for Scorpius too. But we'll learn more in the next chapter about what kind of decisions he makes when it comes to Ginny.... Now, about Draco. The D/G scene really sums up his character at this point in the fic, I think. He does have reasons why he can't divorce Astoria; it's true that Ginny can divorce Harry, but that Draco can't do the same thing to Astoria. But he's completely convinced that Ginny should just love him so blindly that she'll make her sacrifice without even knowing why he can't make his. Being Draco, he's furious that she won't do it. He's a lot like NYT's Draco, actually, only more bitter and arrogant and emotionally closed off because of the choices he's made. Yet he's still capable of love, and so is his son, and of course they love the same woman... and yes, you KNOW there's going to be a time when Draco finds out about this. ;)

You know, I really shouldn't have tried to read this chapter today. I'm so drugged out on flu medicine and have been trying to do work, so my brain is pretty much blegh right now. That being said, I found this chapter quite fascinating. The conversation between Draco and photograph!Ginny did go a bit over my poor tired head sometimes, just because I was trying to work out 'how' it all fit together and worked, but seeing the way Scorpius responded to her was both tragic and touching. He is so obsessed with her that he is even willing to pretend to be his father.

I think my favourite part of this chapter was the part where Scorpius realised the difference between he and his father. The fact he can admit his weaknesses tells of his strength, while it is Draco -- the one who lies and hides - who really is being eaten up by all he is trying to deny. Now I just really want to know what will happen next.

Author's Response: I've been sick too... I think it's been going around (the entire world, apparently.) Anyway, basically, here's what happened, just to make sure it's all clear: Scorpius was talking to a photograph of Ginny taken when she was sixteen years old at Hogwarts. It happened to have been taken on the exact day that she'd decided to finally sleep with the seventeen-year-old Draco. Because her real self had already made that choice, her photograph-self knew about it. But because photo-Ginny only *remembered* all the delicious things that her real-self had done with Draco-- rather than actually having experienced them-- she just could not resist tempting him into kissing her, even though she knew that as a photo-self, she wasn't supposed to. (Of course, she didn't know that she was actually talking to Scorpius, either.) What surprised her so much is that it really shouldn't have been possible for that kiss to even happen, and from what we've read so far, if it had been anybody but Scorpius, it couldn't have happened.

Scorpius knew the entire time that everything he was doing with photo-Ginny was a terrible idea, because it could only feed his obsession further, and she didn't even know who he really was. I also think he knew all along that none of it would make any difference as far as what had really happened-- the real Ginny wouldn't know anything about what her photo-self had done. But he just could not resist. I agree that the difference is shown when Scorpius realizes just how weak he was, and that his weaknesses aren't simply going to go away. Poor Draco. He's even obsessed with the jewelry. ;) But there's so much we don't know about why he made the choices he did. And, of course, we'll find out.. ;)

I love you for updating this fic today! I've been completely swamped with work, so I haven't been keeping up with my fanfiction reading (which is why I haven't read your new fic yet). However, since I've already read the previous chapters of this story, and since I'm having a break tonight, I figured I could treat myself with reading this new chapter.

And what a chapter it is. Some very curious things going on at the beginning. The third Malfoy trait - it's been a while since I read the other chapters, so I'm not sure if you've clarified this before, but I am interested to see how this plays out. The fact that it can heal or haunt is quite an interesting juxtaposition, and one I'm sure you will explore in future chapters. Being the lover of happy endings that I am, I do hope it will heal, but I have no doubt you can persuade me to love whatever you write - happy ending or no.

I know I've said this before, but I really do love Alec. He is an absolute favourite. I actually laughed aloud when I read this: How about Scoppy? Or Scirpy? Or Skippy? I do like Skippy.” Mostly because Skippy makes me think of Skippy the Kangaroo. But Alec himself is just priceless. I love, love, love how he's like "we're friends because I say so, and I'm always right". He's just so fun and brings a light-hearted touch to a fic that has the potential to be quite dark and depressing. I really appreciate that.

Of course, the most interesting part of this chapter was the end. If Scorpius has given up one path - the happy, normal path with Nora - what is this new path he has chosen to take? To me this seems like the crossroads heroes come across in stories, before they've set out on the adventure. It's the whole "You can stay at home and live a happy life with your ordinary wife on the farm, or you can take up your sword and go out into the world, and maybe earn your fortunes and a princess too, or just die along the way." Now I am, of course, not expecting Scorpius to win a princess or his fortunes, but it does seem to me like he has given up his chance to have a 'normal' life. Nora was his vision of stability and safety, just like the woman he has his intiation with in the Crystal Palace. However, she is not his 'true love' and all that rot. She's more like a 'settle for' option, rather than the reward you actually win after putting in the hard work and taking the risks.

I'm rambling, but I hope you were able to follow that, haha. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I'm very interested to see where this new path will take Scorpius. What dangers lie in his path? Is Ginny really the woman to teach him about the third Malfoy trait? And will he ever get a happy ending, or will be like the hero who meets a tragic end? So many questions.

Author's Response: Thanks! What a GREAT review.... (offers selection of Review Crowns.) The 3rd Malfoy Trait is very important, and it certainly isn't as simple as the others. There will be more and more clues about it as the fic goes on, and yes, it does get revealed. Alec is just great-- I originally had a version where he DID know more about the 3MT, but I realized that it didn't really make any sense. He'd clearly heard something about the first two, but the third is a secret. Let's just say that Prudence Temperata/Johnson (at the CP) knows exactly what it is.

I really like Nora, but Scorpius would never have been able to choose her in the end. Remember, he decided over the Yule holidays that he had to be honest with himself, and so he could not settle for her (or ruin her life by doing so, either.) He's chosen the more difficult path, without a doubt, and there are some real twists and turns coming up.... ;)

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, this was adorable. And hilarious. Lucius's inner monologue had me in stitches.

I'll be sad when the fluffiness dies, but I can see how it will happen. I look forward to reading the rest. ^_^

Author's Response: Thanks! Again, I am so glad to get a review from you. And I am finding that I kind-of love Lucius in this fic. So I am glad you enjoyed his little moment. And yes, the fluffiness definitely disappears. Between the war and the repeated no's to the proposals, it gets a bit sad at times. But I tried to keep some lighter moments in it throughout. Thank you again for the review!

OMG! I literally laughed out loud while reading this. Some of my favourites:

"He knew that was partly why he stayed with Pansy; with her, he didn't have to do anything but exist."

"And I am offended; I stopped receiving payment from your father last year"

So funny. But this whole chapter was just great! Draco is so adorable in his 'I'm being so devious, I'm going to write love letters!' plan. And I like that he asks her to marry him in a way that isn't actually asking. I was wondering how it was going to happen.

What really made this chapter for me was Michael sneaking in and actually knowing that Draco was the one writing the letters. Trust a Ravenclaw to figure it out.

Author's Response: Thanks so much. I think I am funny sometimes, but doesn't everyon think that about themselves? So I was not sure if the humour would really come across. It's good to know that it did. And I loved writing Draco in this chapter. As for the proposals, seven is a lot, and when I first started writing this, I almost changed it to five because I kept wondering how I was going to pull off seven. Obviously, the first two aren't real, but I hope it works for everyone in the end. Thanks again for the review!

Lots going on in this chapter. I'm really, really tired, so it was a bit difficult to take everything in, but I do think you did well for trying to piece everything together for such an eventful chapter, if that makes any sense.

I'm sad to see the fluffiness going away, but there were still some nice moments. Their first time was awkward and cute, as it should be. I thought you really got that 'teenage' feel about it, but I admit I have some issues with your Ginny. Sometimes, I didn't really understand her motives for things. I suppose we can blame it on stress. Being in a school run by Death Eaters and worrying about your friends safety would make one a little on edge.

Author's Response: It was a busy chapter. It covers the longest stretch of time (in detail at least) than any of the other proposals. Yeah, Ginny is a reactive kind of girl in this fic. She's compulsive and resorts to diversion, a lot. I mean, I had to make her a little unstable in order to turn down Draco so many times. I hope it's not too much:)

I have to be honest, I didn't particularly like this chapter. I'm steadily losing respect for both Draco and Ginny. I think it was very cruel what Draco did to Astoria -- so much, in fact, that I wanted to hit him. And Ginny is frankly annoying me with her swtichy indecisiveness and whiny "If you love me, you'll let me walk all over your heart, Draco" nonsense.

I'll keep reading, but I just didn't feel I could say I enjoyed this chapter when it wouldn't be the truth. That being said, I did laugh at the house-elf named Potty.

Author's Response: I'm sorry you feel that way. I admit, their relationship can be pretty ugly. But I'm trying to be honest with what Ginny has been through. Someone who has a lot of emotional baggage is not going to be good for anyone else, no matter how great they are. Ginny was being brutally honest, and I think she did the best thing for both of them by asking for space. And yes, she could have handled it better, but people who are hurting don't often make the best decisions. Even he knows that she is not really ready, but he is clinging to denial. She has a lot of work to do before she could be what he wants her to be. Trying to force things to work would only end very badly for both of them. And yes, Draco was absolutely terrible to Astoria. Although he was 100% right in saying that she deserved more than he could give. As far as I'm concerned, better to be dumped six months in than to be divorced six years later.

This story became so much more serious than I ever expected. I did not focus on what happened between Ginny and Harry because it's not about them really. But he did mess with her head, intentionally or not. And he did repeatedly cheat, which can destroy someone on the inside. But just so your warned, until she faces her demons, she's going to continue to make very bad choices.
