Mobile Web

In my recent foray into mobile browsing, I became curious. How many people browse the Fire and Ice Archive using a mobile device? I've set up a poll (viewable on the Valentine, Lake and Photobooth3 skins), so please answer even if you don't. (There is a 'none' option.)

Additionally, I'm curious as to how the site looks on these devices. Is something really screwy? Love something? Wish something could be changed? Now's your chance to let me know!

I use a regular mobile phone (Sony Ericsson K-something) when I need to nurse my baby or do something else if it's not convenient to sit behind PC or laptop. I have downloaded miniopera, a special program to brows sites in the mobile. The site looks nice, everything is in order, if I want I can see pictures there but since they are quite small and quite large I've disabled the option. The only thing that disturbs me is that italics come through like regular shift, but it's not the site's problem. It's the same with other sites too. So yeah, I'd say that I like reading stories from a mobile.

lol, the bit about the pictures came out a bit funny. I hope you understand that I meant small to look at but large to download. ;) I pay for browsing by kbits.

I use the Tmobile Wing, which is a HTC Smartphone. I use Internet Explorer on my phone. When on my phone, the site looks the same as it does on my computer. It's perfect.

Looks perfect with the iPhone. I like to read D/G in bed. :D

I view it on my iphone. I love having something to read everywhere I go. There is one glitch. I do have to increase the size of the font. Even when I enlarge the screen the buttons are a little close together. I've accidentally hit one of the other buttons quite a few times. I don't know if you can put a little more space in between all the buttons on the top right or not. Other than that, it's fabulous.

I have a regular motorola razor but I use my itouch when I'm away from the computer. I usually read in bed with it and everything looks great. I just enlarge the font 1 or 2 times, flip the itouch horizontally, and just scroll down as I read.

I use a Blackberry with browser. This website is actually very easy to navigate in the browser, so much more than other sites I visit. Don't change a thing! :)

Looks great on the iPod touch! Just flip it to the side and it's super easy to read. I usually double click to zoom in a bit. Sometimes it is hard to choose options because it is a touch screen but over all it is an A. I used to browse using a BlackBerry back in America and it was really good. Very easy to navigate and use. I'm now using a Sony Ericsson Phone and it looks great when opened with Opera.

CCC, get some other software and buttons become non-issue. I don't know about iphone, but MiniOpera for a regular mobile lets you choose if you want to use a mouse or buttons to navigate - it all actually works with joystick. Very easy o use. Mobile view helps with the differences between screens. And I only adjust the font only the first time I start using the program, now every site has just the font I originally selected.
I love my phone. Easy access to any stories my heart craves. :)

I have a Blackberry as well. Everything looks fine on it. Makes me happy when I get my DG updates on the go. =]

I can't see the poll so I'll just answer here. I use a t-mobile 3G and I access the website most of the time online. It looks fine for the most part but it would be great to have a mobile version that loads faster.

wcoast_girl @ Apr 16, 2009 11:03 am

I meant I access the site on my mobile most of the time! Ooops :)

wcoast_girl @ Apr 16, 2009 11:03 am

Internet on my phone costs too much but I also use an iPod touch (actually im using it right now!) and it looks exactly like it does on my laptop. :)

StormyBliss @ Apr 16, 2009 06:17 pm

Looks fine on iPhone. Some overlapping text but nothing to bothersome. :)

YOUMUGGLES @ Apr 16, 2009 09:14 pm

I use an LG Dare, everything looks fine!

xbounsinoffdawall @ Apr 17, 2009 03:04 pm

I use a Sidekick LX, works well enough as anything does.

prentzel @ Apr 17, 2009 05:28 pm

I use the HTC Touch Pro and everything looks great. That is actually where I visit the site most of the time. They are my bedtime stories :)

dracosnaughtyprefect @ Apr 18, 2009 01:47 am

I use a Tmobile sidekick- and I'm using it right now!
Everything works fine and looks perfectly normal!

ExquisiteBeauty @ Apr 18, 2009 08:21 pm

I use an LG Dare with no problems at all. Everything looks exactly as it does on a computer. I don't really use my cell to actually read the stories that much, but I do use it to check the site for updates on the fics that I am reading.

Teller of Tales @ Apr 18, 2009 09:39 pm

I am so glad to see I'm not the only person reading DG on the go! I felt like a bit of an idiot on the bus getting my DG fix but now I see I am not alone!
I use my iPhone and its all a-okay!
=]

Wow I used exclamation marks at the end of every sentence, I'd just like to apologise for my appalling punctuation abuse.

hpfreaklk @ Apr 19, 2009 12:55 am

I'm on a sidekick right now, and have taken to reading in bed. Works fine for me.

BooRadley @ Apr 19, 2009 11:02 am

I use O2 zinc. I love reading D/G on the go, where ever and when ever I want to... =)

4everdandg @ Apr 19, 2009 07:28 pm

I use my blackberry... my only complaint is that since there's no "next" link (only the fancy drop-down thing, I have to go back to the table of contents for each new chapter.

blacksapphire136 @ Apr 20, 2009 12:19 pm

I have the HTC Touch pro.  I use Explorer 8 and I drain my battery regularly while reading dg!
