Oooooh! Another child?? You're creating more questions than answers, Pam!
One of the things I love about this story is that Draco doesn't want to know anything about his former life, but he's the one who is remembering things. And his selfishness about the information he has is so in character. He wants to keep Ginny for himself, and even though he knows Harry is dead (unless he's not?? But Draco doesn't know that anyway), he still feels threatened by him, because Ginny loved him so much. He just wants to keep his family together, and it's probably wrong of him to keep his new-old memories from Ginny, since she wants to know about her former life so badly, but he's doing it because he's selfish and afraid, and that's such a Draco trait, I think.
In this chapter particularly, I really like the part where Draco muses over his and Ginny's differences and how they complement each other, Draco's rational nature vs. Ginny's irrational nature.
Can't wait to read more!
Author's Response: I know I am creating more questions! Haha. But I promise some answers will be given very soon. Maybe not necessarily the answers to the biggest ones, but we'll definitely learn a little more about what has happened to the characters since they came to America in the next chapter, and there will also be a tiny glimpse into what really happened in England at the end of the war. Also, I am so glad you think Draco is in character in this story. He really is in love with Ginny and cares a lot about his children, which is why he is keeping everything he knows a secret; however, there is a real reason for why he is afraid of telling her what he knows, and that's something that will be touched on in the next chapter.
Well, I finally read the last two chapters, my dear! :) I so love the way this is going. The mystery is deepening... (another child for Ginny?!?), and I can already tell that the way it ends will not be obvious. And really, putting Draco in a Value Inn in the Midwest is priceless. ;) It just seems to be such an interesting exploration of who these characters really are no matter WHERE they are, and it shows that they don't need to be in the most familiar surroundings.
Oh, and if you haven't checked out the new JKR interview yet, you really should. Basically, it supports D/G. Indirectly so, but there's no doubt that it does. Should've thought of that SIX YEARS AGO, maybe (or a lot earlier than that, considering when the plotline was planned out), but better late than never. ;)
Author's Response: Thank you! And yes, Ginny was pregnant with another child, although we have no idea what happened to the baby at this point (hopefully nothing bad!). I am hoping that the ending of this fic - which is still a decent ways away ;) - will be both satisfying and surprising. That's what makes a good mystery after all! And yes, I did take great excitement in making Draco Malfoy as obscenely poor as the Weasleys once were, but I'm glad that he is still coming off as /him/ despite the fact that he's in a different place and in a different situation. And no, actually, I did not read a new interview with JK. Do you have a link? :)
