To Dare

He loved the girl with flame red hair
She spent her days without a care
And all that he could do was stare
'Twas so unfair, 'twas so unfair

Among his friends he showed such flair
It's true he might be evil's heir
This red haired girl he could not scare
His heart would tear, his heart would tear

His friends all laughed 'She's so threadbare!
That awful robe – how could she wear?'
But still his love he did declare
Without despair, without despair

Her brother saw him staring there
And fixed him with a deadly glare
He'd like to steal her – but go where?
Oh, for a lair! Oh, for a lair.

Her brother told her to beware
And to avoid his devil's snare
Her safety was his only prayer
She would not swear. She would not swear!

She passed him closely on the stair
He wanted all his soul to bare
So maybe they could be a pair
Oh would he dare? Oh would he dare?

He dreamed that she was lost somewhere
And struggled in his dark nightmare
He could not let these dreams impair
Nor overbear, nor overbear

The fire haired girl was made aware
Of ice grey eyes beyond compare
Her broken heart he could repair
And their lives share – and their lives share

His friends thought they were rather square
But he needed her more than air
The love they had was very rare
No love they'd spare, no love they'd spare

Their wedding was a grand affair
And soon they needed an au pair!
With building blocks and teddy bear
And a high chair, and a high chair.

The End.
