A faint color began to rise in his cheeks. "I've lost the ancestral seat of the Malfoys and most of the money to boot, not six months ago. And I'm lucky I'm not rotting in Azkaban into the bargain. I'm not feeling sorry for myself."
"Then you're doing a bloody good imitation," she retorted.

Draco clamped his hand around her waist like a band of iron. Oh, no, Ginny thought despairingly. This was not going well.
"She's mine alone,” said Draco.
"But she's got other customers, right?" asked Theo.
"She is not to be shared,” said Draco. “I… ah… don't share my toys. You ought to remember that, Nott.”
"But if she's no more than a toy, then it shouldn't matter." Nott's expression was turning crafty. Suddenly, Ginny had a very, very bad feeling about what might happen next.
“Seems as if you shouldn’t mind sharing Ginny with me, don’t you think, Malfoy? After all we’ve been through together? You know what I mean, don’t you?”

so something interesting that came up in this chapter is Draco's prejudices - in a perfect world, hypothetically, we have a happy ending, they are together, in love, what not - there's still this potential underlying values difference between that? How is that reconciled?
I also really enjoy the extra dimension of Theo in this chapter - I kind of liked him, a little bit, or wanted him to have better reasons for doing what he did (which, I'm waiting for a flashback chapter to reveal more on that!) but that was quite well done I think. I'm looking forward to so much more! This is the most recent series of yours I have read, so there is potentially some backstory I need to catch up on.

Author's Response: Thanks! :) Of course, it being July, we might want to turn the AC up... (or wait, were you in the southern hemisphere?? In which case, here's some hot cocoa. :) You're asking a very good question as far as how Draco and Ginny make it through their differences, and there is no easy answer. I think that given what we have in canon, there is just no way around the fact that Draco was raised to hold some prejudices very close to his heart. And believe me, it will come up again.
I kind of felt sorry for Theo here too, and the weird thing is that I hadn't originally planned to show his vulnerabilities at all. But... you know... the characters do have different ideas sometimes for how things are going to go. ;) More coming soon...

So there was this offbeat truth present I think in Draco's putting Ginny's confession front and centre, and in her reaction to it. It resonated with me - how many times have some of us dreaded being asked a certain question that means vulnerability, only to find we have the capability to tackle it? Not every time to be sure, but sometimes, sometimes we do. I really love this whole series, looking forward to the next chapter!
