23 JULY 2013 - I am very sad to say that I have pulled Prove You Wrong and I will not be finishing it, unfortunately. My writing has improved vastly in the 16 months since I've updated it, and I just cannot get back into the story in order to make it workable for my current writing style and ability. Sorry to those who had favorited/followed/reviewed that story, but it is just no longer something I care to devote my time to! However, in happier news, now that Pretend is nearly completed, I am happy to say that I have a few new stories in mind and that my writing will continue despite my recent lapse in activity.

The Girl With the Taxi Driver by Anise    (Reviews - 49)

The war is over, and so is Draco Malfoy's world. He has run as far as he can, and now, as a taxi driver in a world that has no more magic, he has come to the end of the line... or so he thinks. But when he finds the former Ginny Weasley, he learns just how many mysteries remain to be solved... and how much hope can still be found.

Chapter SEVEN quote of the day:

At three in the morning, Draco turns off the sign on top of his cab and pulls into the parking lot of the pancake house. He sees her small figure tucked into a seat in the corner table. It sends a pang of something like fear through him when he gets an inkling of just how happy he is to see her.

Ginny slides into a molded plastic seat. “I’m hungry. Want to split some pancakes?”

She eats ravenously when they arrive, tearing apart the pats of butter in their foil wrapping, ripping the cover off the sealed plastic pouches of syrup. “I shouldn’t have coffee this late. I’ll never get to sleep. I never do before five or six anyway, so I guess it doesn’t matter.”

This casual Ginny. Flippant. She does not want him to feel sorry for her. She will not accept his pity. He admires her. He wonders just how many Ginnys there are. He wants to meet them all. That scares him, too.

This is very interesting, Anise! The world that you've created here is intriguing - I love how it's the Muggles now who have prejudice rather than the Wizards - so very clever. I am not familiar with Taxi Driver, so I can't really comment on any parallel between your fic and that story, but I have to say I am really excited to read more of this. Please update often :D!

Author's Response: Thanks so much! :) Well, there are going to be some parts sort of inspired by TD, although it's not a crossover, and the plot is far from being the same. Every once in a while, we'll see a quote ("I want to work long hours" was the only one in this chapter, I think.) So it really doesn't matter if you've seen TD or not. One thing that goes into this Draco's character, though, is that just like Travis Bickle, we're never completely sure if he's a sympathetic/likable person or not. The difference is that with Travis, I think we're STILL not sure by the very end... and with Draco, we'll have a pretty good idea which way it goes. More soon!

It was great to finally get to learn what happened to the Wizarding world. I definitely did not expect that to be the reason - I really didn't know what I was expecting at all, actually - but that does make some sense. I'm very intrigued about Ginny and Draco's past relationship. This fic is so unique. Can't wait for more. :D

Author's Response: Thanks! You know, I didn't originally think that was the reason why the wizarding world ended up the way it did, either... but the idea presented itself and would not go away. And there's so much more to learn about the past D/G here!! More soon. :)

Your Ginny is so jaded, and it's almost heartbreaking to see. I actually felt badly for Draco in this chapter, like he had no idea what was going to happen. It seems like he genuinely cares about her, but I think she's so into her lifestyle that she can't recognize that he does. It's very sad. I can't wait for more! :)

Author's Response: Thanks! :) I agree that the situation is pretty sad right now, but remember... we're only seeing Draco's POV, and he definitely can be an unreliable narrator. ;) Ginny's side of things would look very different if she could speak up, but then we'd know too much.... and we're not going to find out everything right away! More soon.

The Anatomy of a Suffragette by haniqua    (Reviews - 100)

Ginny Weasley wants nothing more than to focus on her Quidditch career and have a fun time doing it - but between the Ministry of Magic's plans to implement new marriage regulations, slanderous news articles by Rita Skeeter and a pair of irritating Slytherins, she just can't catch a break.
A feminist take on the Marriage Law trope, with DG for good measure.

D&G by rowan_greenleaf    (Reviews - 10)

"Like what you see?" he inquired.
"Yes," she said simply.
Draco rolled the sleeves of his shirt up to his elbows, his eyes never leaving hers. He walked up to her slowly, allowing his gaze to brazenly run down the length of her body. "And?" Another step and he was standing just in front of her, less than an arm's length away. "Do you intend to do something about it?"

I loved this story! I loved the way D and G gradually became attached to each other throughout the story, how even though they began the night as... not friends... they still grew as characters and realized who the other person actually was. The fact that you wrote such development in these characters over the course of one night together is just that much more impressive. The way they got together in the story made it seem so natural. Great job as always! :)

Author's Response: Hi there! Thanks so much for your review! I'm happy that you liked this story, and that what I perceived as a weakness (the fact that their relationship progressed so quickly -- literally overnight) was one of the things you loved the most. Thanks again! ^^

If Your Hands Were In Mine by Anise    (Reviews - 21)

Ginny hasn’t seen Draco since the last time they met in a moonlit corridor after the last battle at Hogwarts. So why is he following her around the Ministry of Magic five years later, desperately trying to warn her about unseen dangers? And why does she still feel that same old disturbing attraction to him?

Chapter FOUR quote of the day:

“Get out of here, Malfoy,” she hissed at him.

He shook his head.

“I’m working on my public art project. Out.

“No,” he said, not moving a muscle.

“Fine,” she sighed, walking over to him. “Why don’t you just tell me what you want, then? Let’s get this over with.”

Jesssss, I am in love with this story. These three characters are my absolute favorites to read together, and their chemistry that you have captured in your writing is just wonderful. My favorite thing about this story, though, is how you've shown the drastic changes that the characters have gone through, but somehow you have still kept them very much in character. Draco, although more reserved and accepting, is still a bit brooding and snarky, and even though Ginny has lost a bit of her spark and her courage, every now and then we get a glimpse of the bite that we all know and love from her. I can't wait for chapter four! :)

And, on a completely unrelated note, I am so incredibly jealous of the fact that you used to live in Italy. I am 100% Italian, and it's my dream to live there!

Post more sooooon, please and thank you. :)

Author's Response: Thanks so much, Pam! I was slightly horrified while writing this story because Blaise was coming on so strongly before Draco even showed up in Italy, and I was writing for a Draco/Ginny prompt. XD But he's so fun to write, and it's easy for Ginny to feel, well, easy around him because he's so carefree. How can she be upset with someone who looks for the fun in life, no matter what? Or maybe he behaves this way because he likes Ginny and knows she needs it. Either way, I like writing Blaise as a buffer between Draco and Ginny, though it's pretty clear in the third chapter that he's an unwanted buffer. XD

I know none of the characters would be the same after the war, so my very favorite thing to do is to write how these characters have changed. No matter what Pottermore/JKR says, I really think the Ministry/the world would have to have changed, become less tolerant of certain things, ideas, people, and the Malfoys would have had to adapt to that world. I don't think they would have been able to use their old tricks, so it's important for me to show how the world has changed and how Draco has adapted to it. I'm so glad you think I've kept them in character even with those changes! I was afraid Draco was too aloof/brooding to really show his character, but in this story, he's so wary of Ginny, I don't think he could have been anything else.

I've got to rewrite the last chapter, but hopefully that won't take me too long. I'll have more as soon as I can! :D

(And Italy is wonderful. I wish I had been able to truly appreciate it while I was there. The whole time I was living in La Maddalena, I wanted to be elsewhere, but as soon as we left, I wanted to go back. It's an amazing, carefree place, and I'd love to go back one day.)

Of Sun Breaks and Salacious Delights by Anise    (Reviews - 145)

+++

Ginny fled the wizarding world when betrayal, deception, and heartbreak tore apart her life. A year later, she lives and works as a Muggle-- and the co-owner of Athena's Saucy Shoppe of Salacious Delights. But she's about to learn that it isn't so easy to leave the past behind... especially when it comes packaged in the person of Draco Malfoy.

Chapter TWENTY Quote of the Day:

Ginny tried again, deciding that it was time for her glowering blond companion to help her out whether he wanted to not.

“It’s so great to catch up with old friends, Draco. Don’t you think?” She jabbed Draco lightly in the ribs under cover of darkness.

Draco clamped his hand around her waist like a band of iron. Oh, no, Ginny thought despairingly. This was not going well.

"She's mine alone,” said Draco.

"But she's got other customers, right?" asked Theo.

"She is not to be shared,” said Draco. “I… ah… don't share my toys. You ought to remember that, Nott.”

"But if she's no more than a toy, then it shouldn't matter." Nott's expression was turning crafty. Suddenly, Ginny had a very, very bad feeling about what might happen next.

“Seems as if you shouldn’t mind sharing Ginny with me, don’t you think, Malfoy? After all we’ve been through together? You know what I mean, don’t you?”

Intriguing beginning! I am really a sucker for stories that illustrate a past between D and G, and one that is set in a Muggle time and place is all the more fascinating. Ginny seems more intimidated by the idea of seeing Draco than she does seeing Theo, which is interesting because it seems to me that Theo is the villain of the piece. I'm excited to see where this goes!

Author's Response: Thanks! :) Well... once we know more about the Nott connection, we'll see why Ginny is more irritated than intimidated by him (at least as far as the reasons she now thinks she knows.) I'm working on this one, even though... I'll be honest, it's been hard to write anything for the past couple of days. But D/G is getting me through it all! :)

Millicent and Ginny's individual mindsets about their work and what their willing to do are /so/ different, and it adds an element of comedy. I am so intrigued to see what's going to happen next with Draco!

Author's Response: Thanks! :) I just love Millicent here, and we'll see more of Pansy's character, too. And in the next chapter... well, you'll see what happens with Draco. ;)

I am so intrigued by the past here. I can only imagine what is going on/had gone on with Theo/Draco/Ginny/etc. Theo seems deliciously evil. And I am also very impressed that this whole epic mystery came from a prompt about a sex shop. My brain does not quite function on the level that yours does, my dear. Very impressive!

Author's Response: Thanks! :) Well, I don't know about my brain functioning on ANY impressive level right now... ;) But I kind of had a simple idea at the beginning; the premise was basically used as a pretext for Draco and Ginny to get together and... well, you know. Then Theo's motives deepened, and so did Draco's, and Ginny became more determined. It just went from there. More soon!
