Of Sun Breaks and Salacious Delights by Anise    (Reviews - 145)

+++

Ginny fled the wizarding world when betrayal, deception, and heartbreak tore apart her life. A year later, she lives and works as a Muggle-- and the co-owner of Athena's Saucy Shoppe of Salacious Delights. But she's about to learn that it isn't so easy to leave the past behind... especially when it comes packaged in the person of Draco Malfoy.

Chapter TWENTY Quote of the Day:

Ginny tried again, deciding that it was time for her glowering blond companion to help her out whether he wanted to not.

“It’s so great to catch up with old friends, Draco. Don’t you think?” She jabbed Draco lightly in the ribs under cover of darkness.

Draco clamped his hand around her waist like a band of iron. Oh, no, Ginny thought despairingly. This was not going well.

"She's mine alone,” said Draco.

"But she's got other customers, right?" asked Theo.

"She is not to be shared,” said Draco. “I… ah… don't share my toys. You ought to remember that, Nott.”

"But if she's no more than a toy, then it shouldn't matter." Nott's expression was turning crafty. Suddenly, Ginny had a very, very bad feeling about what might happen next.

“Seems as if you shouldn’t mind sharing Ginny with me, don’t you think, Malfoy? After all we’ve been through together? You know what I mean, don’t you?”

Wow, this is off to a great start. I like the way the past dealings between Ginny, Draco and Nott were hinted at, not to mention why Ginny is hiding amongst muggles. There's nothing like a good mystery to make a story interesting.

Author's Response: Thanks! :) The reason why Ginny fled the Muggle world aren't actually that complicated-- they'll be revealed in the next chapter-- but the past incidents involving Nott are a mess. We will eventually learn all! ;)

The tension between Ginny and Draco is fantastic. I almost thought they'd kiss after Draco's confession that he too was a seeker. I really like how his confession put a different contation on how Ginny could move on from the past and her regret of the tattoo.

Author's Response: Yes! That's what I loved so much about the tattoo. She originally got it for Harry, but it could just as easily represent Draco. Still a bit of a tragedy because she's not (or she *thinks* she's not ;) ) in a relationship with Draco, but the potential is all there. She just has to reach out and grab it. ;D Thank you for reading and reviewing! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter. That tension, man. That tension was the best part of writing this chapter for me.

I realized I left my review for the previous chapter under this chapter and don't know if I can leave two reviews for the same chapter. This cheater there was a lot of realizations going on. I'm glad that Draco finally stood up to his mother and that he realized that he loves Ginny. How I wish he could help her but abiding by her decision shows how much he has changed.

First off I am very late reviewing this chapter and I apologize for that. It was so intense and had so much going on that I wanted to think about what to leave in my review and life carried me away.

This chapter, I loved it, especially the connection between Draco and Ginny...and their kiss. Wow! One of my favorite scenes was where Ginny confessed about her possession. The line where even the unflappable Theodore really drove the point home about what no one knew. The darkness inside of Ginny from her possession helped her find common ground with the other Slytherins , it made her relatable to them and not just someone who was on the winning side. It is building a foundation for a good friendship between them all making it even more justifiable of how easily Ginny fits into Draco's life. Their cute little touches of giving each other support was so touching.

The Pansy and Daphne reveal was an eye opener, but what I didn't understand is the motivation for Pansy to marry Theodore. Did it start out as a marriage of convenience? Pansy seems to still love Daphne and married Theo for her, did she gradually grow to care for him? The interaction between Theo and Pansy seemed to have love there. The portrayal of their marriage seemed to be based on opposites making it work, but it's more than that.

I really love Harry with Astoria and I loved Draco for calling her on her jealousy of Ginny.

I like that Ginny wants to handle Jason Junker on her own, and to show she can be independent. But sometimes being independent is realizing when you need help.

I cannot wait to read what happens next! The pacing of the story is spot on, even thought I want it faster at times because I'm so eager to find out what is the next reveal or the next step in the progression of their relationship.

Author's Response: First off, this review is amazing. Thank you SO much for taking the time to tell me all your thoughts.

Yes, yes, exactly! I've always loved the idea of Draco not knowing the truth about Ginny's part in the CoS and her sharing it with him. I think Pansy and Co. would know even less about it than Draco, so I just had to have a scene where Ginny shares that information with all of them. As you said, knowing the truth makes Ginny a little more relatable to them. Before that moment, they thought of Ginny as a do-goody, Harry's ex-girlfriend, a Weasley, a member of Dumbledore's Army, one of the "good guys," and a Gryffindor. All things they would turn their nose up at. But knowing what happened to Ginny when she was so small, knowing about how she faced that kind of darkness at the age of 11, that would be terrifying and impressive to them, and it would force them to see her in a new light. I'm so happy this moment made sense to you.

Pansy's relationship information has been sprinkled around the story since chapter 6, but I didn't want to put in too much detail because 1) I wanted the previous Pansy/Daphne relationship to be a surprise, 2) I started writing a prequel about Pansy/Daphne/Theodore and wanted the bulk of the information to be there, and 3) Draco doesn't know everything about this relationship because Pansy didn't share it with him. But essentially, what Draco knows is this:

Like Draco, Pansy's mother was pressuring Pansy to marry. At the time, Pansy was dating Daphne, but, unlike Draco, Pansy didn't fight her mother about the marriage issue. She knew her relationship with Daphne would never be accepted by her mother or society, so she and Daphne broke up and Pansy married Theodore, a marriage her mother arranged. She and Theodore didn't love each other, but they fell in love after they got married. Pansy still feels regret about Daphne, and she might even love her still, just a little bit, but she loves Theodore too much to ever give him up. Pansy/Theodore is a bittersweet relationship in this story.

//I like that Ginny wants to handle Jason Junker on her own, and to show she can be independent. But sometimes being independent is realizing when you need help.//

Yes. That's all I'll say about that. :)

Seriously, this review is so wonderful and totally made my night when I saw it. Thank you so much for reading and for the amazingly wonderful review!

I really am enjoying this story. The suspense of Draco and Ginny getting together increases each chapter. Jason Junker is a character readers can hate with ease. I hope Ginny finds a way to have Draco accompany her on the conference. It would serve Junker right for tricking her.

I hit submit by accident...no comment except that it is the train's fault. I was trying to say that Ginny only needs to come to her own realization that the help she needs, she only needs to ask. It's such a difficult situation to be in, I would like to say that I wouldn't let myself get into such a situation, but you really don't know unless you are in that exact situation yourself. I hope Ginny's time with Glinda will help her stand up to that jackass Junker and or get the support she needs to do it on her own terms and admit to herself that it's okay to ask for help.

Author's Response: Ginny definitely needs help. Luckily she's going to ask for it really soon!! And, I agree, it's difficult to say what you would or wouldn't do in a situation like this, but until you're facing something similar, you just don't know how you would handle it. It's not something you can prevent, either, so it's hard to warn people against this kind of harassment or take precautions yourself. :(

This is the real review for this chapter. First off, I'm an so glad that Ginny and Draco both realized they are in love with each other. Hip hip hooray!!

Ginny's arrival at Malfoy Manor was a twist I was not expecting. It had been a while since I read the previous chapter and had forgotten that a. Draco moved out and b. He was at work. So I was as surprised as Ginny that he was not there. Narcissa is a formidable woman and you certainly made Ginny more than enough of a match for her. Narcissa does not seem likely to change her tune, any time soon, but I really hope she does. Or at least Draco convinces her that she needs to let him live his life and stop meddling in his even though she disapproves.

I really like the way that Ginny did not budge an inch, but answered one of Narcissa's questions on her own terms. She did not let Draco's mother bully her. Hopefully exactly what she needs in her future confrontation with Junker the jacksss.

Colin and Draco's attempt to convince Stephanie to act against Junker was disappointing, I had high hopes they would be successful. But I didn't see it as a failure, more like strike 1 at bat, with another chance to stay in the game. It makes sense that she is still fearful and still letting that fear control her life. I think Draco's plan to inform Ginny of everything will be a winner and it will eventually get Stephanie onboard to help Ginny in the fight against Junker.

I'm looking forward to see how it will all unfold. The way you have fleshed out this story, from what you had originally is amazing. It's so much more than it was.

Author's Response: Ha! I didn't even think of Narcissa as something like a trial run for Ginny's eventual or potential confrontation with Junker!! Seriously though. If she can stand up to Narcissa Malfoy, she can probably take on anyone. Thank you so so much! This story has grown into so much more than I originally imagined it could be. Usually when I decide to expand a story, I have these high aspirations for an epic extension/rewrite, and then I ultimately fail to follow through with those ideas, so I'm really proud of the way THIS story has unfolded, and I'm so glad you've been enjoying the ride. :) Thank you for reading and leaving such thoughtful reviews!

The comment made her grin wider. Closing the distance between them, she brushed her fingers over his cheeks without thinking. Draco grew still at the contact before relaxing into her touch. As their eyes met, she said Tergeo softly. Instantly, all the snow and ice from his face and hair was siphoned off. Upon examining her handiwork, Ginny was pleased to find that she had managed to do wandless magic. The indignation on Draco's face slipped off and was replaced with a serious look of contemplation.

"Oh come on, that was just simple magic and I am not the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter for nothing."

Ginny joked, trying to lighten the mood. She knew that look on Draco's face very well: the clear, sharp, piercing grey eyes of his become stormy whenever he was in deep contemplation about a difficult decision. She remembered that look when he first decided to share about himself honestly; that look transpired into a great friendship between them. To be honest, she had never thought they could be friends, good friends even, but there was just something about his dry humour and no-nonsense honesty that she appreciated. If she needed someone to tell her the truth without frills and give it to her, he would be the person she goes to.

Finally, he opened his mouth, "Ginevra-"

I really really like this story. You captured Ginny perfectly, she's innocent, slightly naive, while trying to be grown up, yet still herself. I like your Draco, someone whose seeking power, and commanding respect but still mysterious and snarky enough to keep Ginny on her toes. Ginny failing to mention Seamus, shows she doesn't want the knowledge of her boyfriend affecting her budding friendship with Draco. I'm really excited for your next update. I hope Ginny's feelings are requited by Draco, but that remains to be seen.

Author's Response: Thank you! Ginny is still slightly naive, for all her war experience. She thinks that she isn't, but at nineteen, how much do we really know of the world? In addition, I can see Ginny being drawn to power - she was drawn to Tom Riddle and to Harry - both disparate ends of the power spectrum. I've always felt that after the war, Draco would be determined never to put himself or his family in a situation of danger or subservience to anyone or anything. The best way to do that is to rehabilitate the Malfoy name and image and to build his own power-base. I think that he would want to make sure that another Dark Lord never rose again - not for anymore noble motives than the damage that his own family and other pureblood families incurred because of it. I think that he would want to protect pureblood status even while he is more open to inclusivity and reforming the Ministry so that a single party can't gain so much power.

This story was very suspenseful and I really thought they all had died. I really didn't understand the cryptic ending. Or maybe I did regarding Draco that he's going to live his life differently. But what about Ginny? What about the change in her relationship with Draco? Was it just to lean on each other in a stressful emotional time. I would have liked to see some sort of resolution where their relationship or lack of one is resolved. Do they stay friends? How this experience changed their lives etc etc.

Author's Response: Thank you for your comment, Lady Mischief. I'm glad you took the time to let me know what you thought about my story and I'm sorry my ending left you unsatisfied. I can tell you what I think will happen to the characters, but you're free to make up your own continuation from the moment my story ends. Personally, I think that the bond between Draco and Ginny goes beyond the romantic one. They were each other's world for a whole week, and they shared the same feelings of dread and fear. I can see the two of them sharing tender moments at Lily and Scorpius' wedding, and be friends and confidants for the rest of their lives, but I personally don't think they'll ever be together like that. Ginny's life with Harry is too blissful, and Draco wants to change his own life with such force and determination that I'm sure he'll manage to patch up his relationship with Astoria and with Scorpius and have his own happily ever after. Hope this helps you understand their fate. Thank you again! xx

This story is interesting. I am curious about Ginny's motives for ignoring the Obvious regarding the Slytherins allegiance to the Dark Lors. Is she a spy or just trying not to be a hypocrite?

Author's Response: Thankyou for reading and taking the time to review! I think Ginny is swept up in the drama of being with Draco and forgetting to think sensibly... More will be revealed soon. I hope you enjoy the next update. xxx

I enjoyed this, although I wish it was to be continued. I want to know what happens next.

Author's Response: We'll both have to use our imaginations, I'm afraid. I don't know what happens next, either! I just wanted to write a story about the train journey from Platform 9 3/4, and I accomplished that much at least. Like Ginny, I'm not sure where she and Draco would go from here. I'm glad you enjoyed the story, though, and thank you so much for reviewing!

The Return of the Singing Valentines by idreamofdraco    (Reviews - 8)

Ginny hoped she would never see another singing valentine again, but, alas, the diaper-wearing, bewinged dwarves are back at Hogwarts, and Cupid's arrow is aimed right at her. One-shot.

I enjoyed reading the the first time round, but neglected to leave a review which I am rectifying now. This it feels more rounded out, now with the prologue, and I enjoyed it more than before. But reading this as a stand alone works, but it works better with the prologue.

Author's Response: It's good to hear you think the prequel added to this story instead of being superfluous!! I'm glad you enjoyed this one, too. n_n

Bet on It by idreamofdraco    (Reviews - 12)

Hogwarts flying instructor Ginny Weasley and Potions master Draco Malfoy have a contentious relationship, rife with insults, bad jokes, and unethical wagers. After five years of heated exchanges, their relationship takes a new turn, but will Ginny accept the gamble?

Prequel to The Return of the Singing Valentines but can be read alone as well.

I absolutely loved it. It was lighthearted and fun, exactly what I needed today, so thank you! Ginny's stubbornness and not to mention Draco's determination sparked off each other perfectly. the ending was the icing on the cake. Loved it.

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for reading and reviewing! n_n
