Author's Comments: Thanks for the feedback about them not sounding their age. I'm working on different sections of this story at the same time (yes, the story will go well into the future), so I'll have to be more careful about making sure they're acting the way they should at this point in the story. I'll listen closely to the 12 year old I live with to keep on track with that.

As for sexual tension between Ginny and Snape -- that was not at all my intention, I just think he makes an interesting foil for her, because everyone else seems to fear the darkness that surrounds him but Ginny is comfortable with it because of her experience with Tom.

Glad you're enjoying seeing the twins -- I love them and love writing for them, so expect to see much more of them!

Thank you to all of you for the reviews, they're greatly appreciated! -- Nola

Thank you for giving the twins more of a role. I always had a hard time buying that they were kept out of the CoS action.

Well... the last few days I've intended to write the next chapter to my own story... until I found yours and got distracted. Haha. Imelda expressed surprise that you haven't received more reviews... I agree, considering how well-written and canonically believable your story is. Perhaps it is the lack of smut (as Anise suggested)... but truthfully, I would much rather read this. I find D/G to be the most effective when it begins as a gradual, reluctant friendship. So you are continuing this story into their later years at Hogwarts? Wonderful. I am concerned though... are you going to spend 9 chapters on every day they live through? Lol. That's fine if you do... I'll have reading material for years to come... I'm just afraid you'll lose motivation. ;) But I'm along for the ride, wherever you're taking this story! Good work... keep it up! :)

Oh! I'm sorry to have reached the end of what's posted. I have definitely been enjoying this story. Although I am a bit surprised you're situating the whole thing in 2nd year. Draco and Ginny are acting much more mature than an 11 and 12 year old, so I think the story you're writing is a bit too old for them. Obviously, though, I guess canon forces you to keep them at that age.

I love Ginny and Draco's interaction, and I'm interested to see how their relationship develops. It's also fun and yet scary to see Tom sticking around in Ginny's head, sometimes talking to her.

Ginny, when she's being cruel, is kind of annoying, though. I like seeing her a bit darker, and also find it interesting watching her struggle with Tom. But her outright b*tchiness is just hard to believe at times. It's too much unlike her. And it's too teen-angsty.

Oh, and if she IS 11 years old, you've really got to tone down the sexual tension with Snape. I keep enjoying it, and then remembering that she's 11, not 16, and being majorly squicked.

I hope you continue this! I'm surprised you haven't gotten more reviews, but I'm sure they will come. Happy writing!

One other thing: it always puzzles me that Lucius being cruel/abusive to Draco or Narcissa is a staple of fanfic. There's no evidence for it in canon that I can see and, quite to the contrary, Lucius seems to dote on Draco. Hmmm.........

Oh, another thing. The Hogwart's shield says, "Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus" which means something like 'don't wake a sleeping dragon'. Could that be a reference to Draco's 'awakening' a la Paul Atreides in Dune and helping to save the day in book 7?
Marcia

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the kind words, Marcia. Sorry, I have no other hidden D/G stories -- this is my first foray into HP fic, after years of writing in the Emergency! fandom. As for Lucius' abusive nature, I based it on the way he treats Draco in "Chamber" when they're in Borgin and Burke's. (He's snarking about Draco not doing as well as Hermione.)Maybe it was my own personal experience coming into play, but I thought that verbal abuse such as that could very easily turn to physical abuse. I like your theory about the Hogwarts crest foreshadowing Draco's awakening and possible salvation. I hope to see it happen in book 7! Peace! Nola

Nola,
Excellent story. Quite yummy and very very well written. I was not surprised to see that you make a living by writing. Your competence shines through. Please, please keep writing and posting this story. Are there any other d/g's you have hidden away or have posted on any other sites?

Kudos! Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

I just wanted to drop a quick (and probably rambling) review to let you know I appreciate your story and hope you will continue to update.
I read a little of this a while back and tonite read through it to where you are at.
I just wanted to let you know that I think you are doing a great job on this story. It is well written and flows well. The premise is interesting too. I hadn't thought about Draco missing before. It is significant that he isn't mentioned at the feast. Harry does tend to mention him all the time in the books.
It is one of the better stories on here. It holds a person's interest and the writing really is quite good.
I'm looking forward to reading more and seeing where you take it.
When I have some time, I'll go back and review the chapters.
Please update soon.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderfully kind review. You made my night! I'm glad you're enjoying the story, and I promise there is much, much more to come.

I am constantly amazed when I find a story in the recently updated that has been available for awhile and I have not read it....I read everything....or at least I try to....one question of a Cabal type....I thought that the Death Eaters, Lucius in particular did not know that Voldemorte was Tom Riddle....if that is true, he wouldn't have mentioned that is 16 year old self, was Tom Riddle? Am I mistaken about this or did you just choose to gloss that over to allow for how Snape could figure out what happened when Ginny said "....no, Tom....." Just curious. I am really enjoying the story, since there are many more chapters available I am off for more reading and will review again on the most recent chapter

Author's Response: I DO think that some of the Death Eaters know about Tom Riddle. As we saw in HBP, many of today's Death Eaters are the sons of Tom Riddle's classmates, and I can't believe some of those men wouldn't brag about being at Hogwarts with him ("I knew him back when he was only Tom Riddle, a poor orphan, long before he became the greatest wizard who ever lived"). That said, I DON'T believe they knew he was a half-blood. I'm sure Tom played up his status as a descendent of Salizar Sytherin, probably claiming the father he never knew was a powerful wizard. Plus, Voldemort is kind of taking Snape and Lucius into his confidence in that chapter, so he might be a bit more open than normal. Do those explanations make sense? Or should I just go ahead and say I glossed things over?

I'm wondering to myself if this will be one of those angst fanfics where Ginny will be a death eater at the end. I'm looking forward to reading the next chapter XD.
Name: Anise reviewed Pansy, Potions and Protection on Sep 29, 2005 07:01 pm
Yes, this is turning out to be a remarkably well-written story. It's all too easy to do sloppy characterizations of both Draco and Ginny, but it looks like you're avoiding falling into that trap. You DO realize, of course, that more people would review if they had the hope of some eventual smut? Yes, it's a sad commentary on human nature, I know... (looks around shiftily)... but there you go. Maybe you could add some, in time. Anyway, it's great, and keep up the good work!

Author's Response: Yes, Anise, I do realize the story is lacking in smut, but as the mother of an 11-year old, I just can't go there! The delay in actual romance is one of the reasons I hesitated in posting, as I wasn't sure people would read a friendship story, even with the promise of eventual smoochies. I originally started the story in (his) fourth year, but then I decided to go back to the beginning to show how their friendship developed, because I thought that would add more depth to the eventual romance. I have various scenes for this story written through his seventh year, so we are eventually going to get to the "good stuff", but it's going to be awhile. I hope people will hang in there and follow the friendship until that time comes, but I know I can't make people read what they don't want.

Good chapter! Especially with the talking in teh sleep. Or was that really an interactive dream and Tom was really actually making her do something right then. I guess I'll have to wait for teh next chapter. It was really awful having to wait. dracoandginny.com said that you had updated but it only showed two chapters in the story index, but I knew you had updated when i looked at the reviews for chapters. I'm so glad I finally got to read it. :D :D :D

I'm really getting fond of this story, and I hope that it does get continued. The story values are just pulling me in... and poor little Draco... (Anise pets hurt!Draco.) And best of all, we now know that this concept of Draco is consistent with canon.
