E Pur Si Muove - Backstory
The year is 2005. It has been seven years since Voldemort was defeated. After the Great Battle at Hogwarts, most of the surviving Death Eaters fled the country, with a few exceptions. The Malfoys, The Parkinsons, and a select other few remained in the country to face the animosity that the Wizarding public at large held for them. Trials were held for the known Death Eaters and pardons were given for those with evidence to prove their innocence, as well as for those who didn't take the Dark Mark. Even for those wizards who were pardoned, heavy reparations for all of the so-called Pureblood Fanatics and their families have been imposed. These range in variety from stiff fines to services provided for the Ministry.
After Hogwarts, Harry Potter graduated from the Auror Academy at age twenty-one and was promptly put in charge of the Department of Postwar Restitutions and Economic Stimulus. This Department immediately began proposing bills and taxes, laws and fines upon possible "ill-gotten gains." They are charged with rounding up the Death Eaters still at large, enforcing the "taboos" and making sure reparations are paid in full. The Reclamation Cooperation, a group that restores stolen and looted goods to their rightful owners, and salvages usable items for others in the Wizarding community to use, falls under the DPRES umbrella, and are the face of the Ministry to many Pureblood Wizarding Homes.
The Ministry has become a staunch advocate in protecting the rights of Muggleborns and Half-bloods, with Purebloods no longer viewed as the elite of the Wizarding world.
